Yes, any parts store has the tools. Even wal-mart has the tool. In the car stereo section.

    Sad fact: 4, 12 penny nails will actually disengage the locks for the ford stereos. Don't ask why I tried that... desperate times... And no, I wasn't trying to steal it! Another trick is to hit autozone or a parts store and get the stereo installation kit for your van, it'll come with the tools necessary. Crutchfield for sure has them... Hope that helps!

Most radios require special tools to retract the locking mechanism. There is a wide variety of tools available to cater for different makes of radio. You need a special tool to remove this radio, parts stores like NAPA have the kit. The tool goes in the two holes on each side of the radio and releases the spring clips that hold the radio in the dash..

Removal and Installation
  1. Disconnect the battery cables. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 .

    1. Insert the special tool into the radio face plate and release the radio retaining clips.
    1. Pull outward on the special tool and remove the audio unit from the instrument panel.
  1. Disconnect the connectors.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Simply pull off the pull off the plastic bezel (quick clips) around the radio, and the radio is attached with screws.

No special tools required.

A special tool is not needed. You can cut 2 pieces of coat hanger and bend them into a U and they work the same as the special tool

I need to install a direct fm box in my 04 ford f250. this item is needed to complete xm radio installation and eliminate static. Can i access the radio from below or do i have to remove the radio. If so...


the radio is removed with a special tool set, it can be bought at any good parts store like NAPA, it is made by KD tools, the two U shaped tools go into the holes on each side of the radio face plate and release the spring clips that hold the radio in, a 30 sencond job.

  1. Using a common radio remover, detach the audio unit.
    1. Insert the common radio remover into the locating holes. Pull the tools gently to the left and right of the audio unit to release the locking tangs.
    1. Slide the audio unit out of the instrument panel.
  1. Remove the audio unit.
    • Disconnect the audio unit electrical connectors.
All except vehicles with high output amplifier and subwoofer
  1. Using the special tools, detach the audio unit.
    1. Insert the special tools into the locating holes. Pull the tools gently to the left and right of the audio unit to release the locking tangs.

I need to remove the radio in my 1998 mountaineer


you need specail radio removal tools. they spread 4 spring clips.

  1. Remove the radio chassis.
  2. Insert Radio Removing Tool into the radio face plate and release the radio retaining clips.
  3. Pull outward on Radio Removing Tool to remove the radio chassis from the instrument panel.

you need a special tool to get the radio out. It has pins that spread out spring clips so the radio can pull out.

yes the tool you need is two pieces of steel that fit into both sides of the radio, there should be two holes on either side...the wires push in and the radio should pop out
