Well if it does not have one,are you parked on a hill?maybe you have a motor/transmission/transfer case mount that is in need of maintanance or the linkage binding somewhere?could possibly even be an issue inside of the steering column or shifter mechanism, for a proper answer could be given by including year, make and model.

Want to know about fixing my 1996 Ford Exploer

On the brake light switch check the harness sometimes it gets to hot and terminals won't make contact they open up. Try wiggling the brake switch harness while pressing brake with other hand truck running or key on engine off and listen for solenoid clicking everytime you press the brakes.

Parking Brake and Anti-Lock Lights Don't turn off

When you release the parking brake (while keeping the handle pulled) reach down or use your foot and pull the parking brake pedal up . If the light goes off, the switch needs adjustment

The brake light is on. Of course this means I need brakes. My concern is that it has never gone on before in the 8 years that I have owned the jeep. I repaired the back brakes last year and the light...

Eight years is a long time and little wonder that your Jeep needs your attention. Which brake light are you talking of? The external brake lights that warn others that you are slowing down or the internal one that tells you that your brakes are on. The parking brakes. For external lights there is a switch that gets presses/released when you press the brake pedal. If this switch malfunctions that can let the brake light remain on as long as the Jeep has its ignition on. So, please locate, check and replace this switch. For parking brakes too there is a switch that gets released when you release the parking brakes. The remedy is the same.

Im not getting any power to the brake light switch 1999 GT mustan

Check fuse #41, if its good then the brake switch may need replacing. You can test the power to the switch by the use of a voltage meter touching the LG/RD (light green/red) wire with the red side of the meter and the other probe to ground. If more than 10 volts its good. You can check the BPP (brake pedal position switch) by installing a fused jumper wire from LG/RD to the RD/LG wires. Connect a 10A fused jumper wire between C242, Circuit 10 (LG/RD), harness side and C242, Circuit 810 (RD/LG), harness side. And check the brake lights, if they go on then the switch is defective. Hope this helps you.

Gear shifter

Sounds like just the brake-shift interlock getting stuck. I would try using the override to get the shifter working again, then use the parking brake to keep it from getting jammed in the future.

The parking brake will reduce the pressure on the gearbox, especially when parked on an incline. If the interlock continues to jam, you probably do need to have the shifter replaced.

Stuck in Park

The park lock mechanism is deactivated by the brake switch. Check to make sure the brake lights are working before any other repairs are made. When the key is in the on position and you depress the brake pedal it allows you to take the car out of park. One can usually turn the key one click and not have power to the park lock mechanism. Then depress the brake pedal and put the car in neutral. With your foot on the brake pedal you can start the car and drive normal but when you put the car in park the process will have to be repeated. Often times one of the wires to the brake light switch on the brake pedal gets brittle and causes intermittent contact or no contact. Check this first.
