Question about 1991 Dodge Dynasty

1 Answer

Just making sure the low pressure valve on the air conditioner is on top?the high pressure valve is on the bottom? Because i am converting from r12 to 134a. The new fittings dont fit over the old ones and the diagram shows this to be correct.

You can buy the retrofit kit at Autozone easily installed.you always use the low pressure side of an A/C system to charge.its the larger hose of the two. be sure to pull a vacuum on it.

How to recharge ac system

Your system is most likely an R12 system and R12 is very expensive even if you are lucky enough to find it. Most older vehicles are being converted to 134A which you can buy just about any auto parts store, heck they even sell it at Dollar General. It was really cheap at first while there were still a lot of R12 units still on the road but the price has gone up since the R12 has been phased out. This presents a quandary as I don't know if you are just topping off your system or you have had to replace something. AC work should only be done by certified technicians. That said Auto parts stores have the simple can with a gauge for topping off a unit but if more work needs to be done then you have to have gauges, replace the dryer, valve, etc. also if the system has been opened to air. If you overcharge a system you will have too high a head pressure and destroy the compressor too low and it won't cool or the pressure switch will shut the clutch off or it will constantly cycle. There are Federal laws governing AC work plus it could be dangerous of course I would bet there are a ton of you tube videos.

1999 Sebring Convertible Air Conditioner is making noise

Well it could be a blockage in the system, but the high pressure switch should cut power to the ac clutch.
You checked both low and high lines and the high side was off the scale, or the low side ? Normal low is 30-45 psi and normal high is 200-300 psi.

What type of freon is in GMC trucks of 1987?

R12.... In 1994 R134a was required, but some changed earlier. Yours may have been converted. If the service ports are threaded it still has R12. Hope this helps.

Converting the r12 system

To convert from r12 to r134a freon, you first need to have the r12 discharged into a recovery system by a licensed professional. It is a violation of federal law in addition to environmentally irresponsible to vent this gas to the atmosphere. Next, remove the drier from the a/c system and use a spray can of a/c system flushing solvent to flush the oil r12 refrigerant and lubricating oil from the system by spraying into one of the liberated hose ends and placing a catch bucket under the other hose end.
You will need to purchase and install a set of adapters for the high and low side access valves by simply screwing them tightly and securely on top of your old r12 valves which are already in place.
After cleaning the system, replace the drier with a new one and reassemble the system. Evacuate the system to a sufficiently low pressure using an HVAC vacuum pump and then add the recommended amount of r134a freon and lubricating oil to the system through the charging hose on your combination manifold gauge set. Assuming of course that you didn't have leaks in the system before you began the conversion, you should now be good to go!
Good luck, and Stay Cool!

How to recharge recharge airconditioner

Hi, determine if your car uses R134 or R12 refrigerant. You will notice screw type connectors on the both the High Pressure Side and Low Pressure Side lines in models using R12 refrigerant. R134 compatible models have quick connect valves on both sides. Models made before 1995 may use the old R12 refrigerant. If this is the case, you must have your Chrysler's air conditioning system retrofitted to use R134 refrigerant. Mixing R12 and R134 refrigerants is dangerous and may cause damage to your vehicle. Check your air conditioning system pressure using an automotive air conditioning pressure gauge. Keep in mind that in order to get an accurate reading, the air conditioner has be turned on the coldest setting with maximum blowing power. Remove the Low Pressure Side port valve cap and set it aside. The location of the port varies, but it is usually in front of the engine block. Attach the refill hose to the port on the Low Pressure Side of the air conditioning system. The Low Pressure Side port is smaller the High Pressure Side port. Because the ports are different sizes, the refill kit hose should fit only on the Low Pressure Side port. Additionally, the High Pressure Side port will usually have a red cap or be marked with an H or the word High Allow the air conditioner to **** the refrigerant out of the can by slowly turning the valve on the refill kit hose. Pay attention to the way you hold the can. Most kits will have you hold the can upright when you recharge the air conditioning system. It may take as long as 10 minutes to empty a single can. Turn the valve to the off position and remove the refill hose from the port. Recap the port before closing the hood. Let the air conditioner stay on for at least 30 minutes. This allows the refrigerant to move throughout the entire system.
Take care

Ac problem

the refill bottle shouuld never be attached to the high pressure side (high side) .. the connections are different to prevent that .. if you did manage to hook that up, there would be great danger of the bottle exploding ... so you can only hook the bottle up to the low pressure side (large piple) ... the retrofit kit should have included adapters for both high and low pressure sides ... the correct adaptor should fit the R134a refill bottle hose ... it should also fit the low pressure port (you may have to remove the valve in the old port (read instructions for that) .. if the adapter does not fit then you might check with a dealer or air conditioner supply house for a special adapter ... R134a and R12 are completely incompatable so make sure you have washed out the system and replaced the dryer and sometimes the hoses ... you cant have any of the old lube left in the system .. its generally a good idea to replace all rubber parts for the changeover .. you will need to pull a vacuum for a couple of hours before refilling .. .

I want to recharge the Air Conditioning on my 1992 Geo Prizm. I have a can of refrigerant and the hose that you use to recharge your A/C,I'm just not sure which hose I'm supposed to hook it up to under the...

the black cap. the larger of the 2 hoses is the "low pressure" hose. You really should not try this if you dont know what you are doing, You have no idea how low your system is, and how much you need to make it full. You need a high and low pressure gauge, and a scale to put in the correct amount. A 1992 car is r12 unless its been converted to r134, and if it has been converted will hold maybe 10-20% less.

Where do you put the A/C fluid in a 1992 BMW 325is?

1992 is still probably set up for R12 refrigerant. You really need to get it converted to R134a, but there should be 2 valves located in the "hard" lines under the hood-1 for high pressure, 1 for low pressure. The freon goes into the low pressure side. Crank car and turn A/C wide open. The connector for adding the froen should only fit the low pressure side.

My recharging kit for air conditioner doesn't seem to fit recharge valve on 2004 dodge durango. How can I be sure i am looking at the low prerssure valve?

Newer vehicle come with R134 vs R12. Since the two are not compatible, R134 has larger fittings. AC system has two ports, High and Low. Low is return to AC Compressor and high is output. High port is first following line from compressor to condenser (condenser is at front of vehicle like a second radiator). Keep following line till you find high port (paint cap red). Second port is low (paint cap blue).
