Why dont it start ?

It means low air flow entering the inlet manifold, blocked air filter?, loose wiring connection to mass airflow meter?, blown fuse?, all could be causes or the mass airflow meter itself could be faulty. Good luck hope it helps.

Is the metal flap on Maf sensor on 92 Lexus es300 supposed to move with gas pedal if car is not running? Will a bad maf cause no apart or a no start condition?

No. The metal flap in the mass aiflow sensor is not connected to the throttle control. The air moving through the mass airflow sensor moves the flap. The flap works a variable resistor inside the mass airflow sensor. The more (and faster) the air is that moves through the sensor, the farther the flap will move...that is how it measures how much air is entering the engine....that is what a mass airflow sensor does.

A bad mass airflow sensor can cause all kinds of fuel control problems that can range anywhere from a hesitation on acceleration to a complete engine no-start condition.

When I get to 60 mph or when I first crank up my 2000 Buick lasbre stalls.

First check fuel pressure to specification. My suggestion is a faulty mass airflow sensor. At idle lightly tap on mass airflow sensor with screwdriver handle and listen for erratic change in engine rpm. Wiggle airflow sensor connector and listen for any changes also. Replace sensor if rpm changes.

Will a bad Intake Air Temperature sensor on a 2002 toyota camary make the car to not start?

It depends on the failure. If the circuit to the intake air temperature sensor is open, it most likely will start but it may not run or idle correctly because it will cause the computer to go into failsafe mode. If the circuits to the sensor are shorted together or shorted to ground it could affect several other sensors and cause all kinds of problems including a no-start condition.
The Intake Air Temperature sensor in your vehicle is built into the Mass AirFlow sensor and could affect the operation of the Mass Airflow depending on the particular failure. Mass Airflow sensor problems are a common cause of no-starts.

I own a 2003 Nissan Altima SE 3.5L. Recently, my car sounds like it is stuck in 2nd gear. The RPM's do not run high but the car sounds like it is racing in second gear. This is an automatic. Help?!

If your service engine soon light is on, go to autozone and have the code pulled up. Sounds like you are in limp mode (safe mode). I suspect it is your mass airflow sensor. Its easy to replace but expensive. I recommend getting one from a junk yard and installing it yourself. if you dont have any mechanical experience dont worry. As soon as you see one it will be obvious you dont need experience. It is in the middle of the big tube that connects your air filter to the throttle body. All you need is a screw driver and disconnect one electrical connector. Again, not worth buying new...they cost over $350 new but only $60 at junk yard.

If you want a quicker way to check, dissconnect the big tube from the intake manifold, in essance letting air run directly to the throttle body without going thru the air filter or mass airflow sensor. If the car runs fine with it dissconnected, its the mass airflow sensor. Buy some mass airflow sensor cleaner at an auto store (its specifically made and named mass airflow sensor cleaner). Try to clean it first...Dont touch anything inside with your finger tho.

Sorry if Im sounding like a school teacher but Im not sure of your mechanical knowledge or ability.

If not none of this works , you will have to pull up the code.

When I start my car it starts fine and then when I put it in drive it dies what is wrong with it?

There could be a few things causing this to happen.

1. Replace air filter and fuel filter. If it still dies when put into drive:

2. Start the car - open hood. Find Mass Airflow Sensor (located between intake manifold and the air intake line (large plastic hose that runs from front of car and into intake manifold). It is a small (usually black) box looking unit. It should have a wiring harness that connects to it.
3.With a wrench or screwdriver handle, (car idling) tap the top of this. Not too hard; but hard enough to "jolt it'. If the car stalls, the idle fluctuates or the car simply dies, this needs replaced. It is call the MAS (mass airflow sensor).
4. You can first buy some MAS cleaner, and see if that helps. If not, replace the unit.
5. It the car idles normal while tapping, the unit is fine, but cleaning it will do the car some good. Go to your local parts dealer and purchase the cleaner for it. (this isn't a must)
6. If replacing the air filter and fuel filter does not change this issue, then change the O2 (oxygen) sensor(s). These will be located : 1. on the exhaust manifold just behind the engine (and down a bit) ; 2. Just behind the catalytic converter. There is a special socket for removing this, but if you cannot purchase one, (auto parts dealer) then just use the correct size open end wrench or Cresent Wrench<--not recommended, but will work in a need to basis.

The socket should cost around 15 bucks or so if I remember right, but again, not a must for this as an open end wrench will suffice.

If this does not help either, (and do this as a safe measure regardless of any outcome from above suggestions), check all the vacuum lines. One may be off, have a hole and need replaced.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you,

2003 sprinter not getting fuel. Checked fuel pump fuse OK. Replaced fuel filter and purged lines with a vaccum pump. still will not start. I was driving the vehicle and came off the highway, stoped at a...

Quick safe way to check fuel pump. Put key in and turn to ON position listen for the pump to buzz or hum. Don't hear it its either the relay, pump or circuitry.
There are other tests but too envolved and dangerous to do. Bring vehicle to repair shop if you don't hear pump buzz. If it Buzzes them problem is either with spark or air.
need spark tester to test for spark. Do visual inspection on air intake plentium (no wholes, leaks) make sure mass airflow sensor is a-ok.

My 95 lincoln town car wont start but turns over if i tap on the mass airflow sensor then go back in the car it trys to start but doesnt could the mass air flow sensor cause this ? and be my problem?

you need to check to see if it has spark at the spark plugs
check to see if you have fuel pressure at the fuel pressure test port at the fuel rail.
if you don't have either one then it may be the ignition module
but first check all your fuses

Mass air meter not reading vane postion

hey rob_andersen,

yes their is a way to replace the mass air flow. Get a can of brake clean or throttle cleaner, throttle cleaner is going to work best. remove the until and spray it down with throttle clean, let it dry for about 15 min. and reinstall it.

Now a little warning for you, IF their is no visual damage to the mass air flow then you can do this successfully. Now the reason why I always replace them instead of spraying them down is because is MOST cases the mass air flow will start acting up again. Sometimes it takes a weeks, sometimes months, sometimes years its hard to say.

But the worst you have to loose, is it doenst work an your out 5 bucks for the can of fluid.

Wont stay running

Check all things airflow related. The PCV valve, the air cleaner, the mass airflow sensor and any other filters.
