I have a Saab 9-3 2001 Convertible and have a significant shutter through the steering wheel . The shutter is more evident at 80 km/hr or higher and is more significant when foot taken off the power .On accelerating the shutter disapears. Just got new tyres and wheel balance and the mechanic indicated it is a common fault with this vehicle . Any ideas on what is the cause ?

If the steering wheel is vibrationg it may be that the wheels need balancing. If the whole vehicle is shaking you need to check that wheel bols are properly tightened first. You might need to get steering/suspension checked .... before there is a bad fault developing
There are a couple of things that can cause vibration ie wheel balancing that might be wrong usually vibrates when driving at 100-120 km/hr,ball joints that a worn, wheel hubs bend, steering knuckle excessive play, steering rack excessive play, worn steering UJ,worn steering column....
If the vibration is in the steering wheel, and you are in 2wd then chances are it is not you're u-joints. I would get other car on a Lift, check ball joints and steering linkage for play. You may jut need to balance your tires
well if the truck feels like it is shaking under you its got to be a tire with a broken belt, or if it is shaking on the steering wheel its something in the fron end
Sounds as if your brake rotors are warped from overheating. You can have them machined to take this out if they are thick enough. This should take care of the problem, if not replace rotors.
This may been an ignition module or a MAF sensor, this car may need to be diagnosed using a OBD I computer code reader to accurately diagnose the problem.
