Turns over without key in

I just replaced alternater, battery, and battery terminals. Went to hook up the battery and when we hook up the postive cable, it acts like the key is in the start position (ac comes on, car starts turning over). What did we do?!

Check out if your vehicles ignition switch is turned on.Check if you are replacing the battery with key in the ignition switch.IF there is key then this will happen. If the ignition switch is turned on then this will happen.Turn the ignition switch off by your key completely .turn the vehicle off. Then only try replacing. In some vehicles the remote is used .So if you are using the remote to turn it on.Then it might be turned on without key in the vehicles ignition switch. In that case use the remote or key to shut the vehicle off. But in case everything is turned properly to off but still this problem is coming up then there are two possibilities. 1) The terminals of the parts which you replaced are not connected properly.Remove and reconnect then check. 2) The other possibility if the terminals are connected properly then its short in the ignition assembly of the vehicle. The ignition switch and ignition module has to be checked,.Its getting command from the battery directly due to short in the ignition assembly wires. Get it checked. It will show exact 12 volts. If the wires are ok.If it shows low voltage then there is a short. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Why would 350 engine start turning over when i hook battery cable up with key off?

You said motor my guess is that you pinched the small terminal wire on the starter solenoid or maybe bent the heat shield on the starter when the wires or terminals are closed or shorted the starter cranks check there 1st and then back track the wires up from there

Ok, even if the battery is new, get a voltmeter and measure the battery, if its below 12v, thats the problem. That way you completely eliminate all these factors without a doubt. Also check negative wire from battery to the ground box and connections. It sounds more like a corroded terminal.

My 80 amp fuse blows everytime i hook up my battery

You have a 40amp fuse for the key switch, and the main component on the 80amp circuit is the alternator.
I would disconnect the alternator, hook up the battery without the fuse, and use a test light across the 80amp fuse terminals to see if the short has been removed.

Where's the positive terminal on the 1997 audi a8. My battery is no longer working and I need to charge battery to get open trunk

If you look at the engine area you will see the postive jump point, let me see if i can locate a picture of this location.heres a diagram of the engine compartment, theres a fuse /relay box in the left rear, this is if you are standing in the front of the car looking in engine compartment, look for a terminal to connect the postive cable and ground the other to metal in the engine compartment, this is only to be used to acess the truck to get to battery, also look around the engine most times theres a postive hook up sometimes neear or on motor, good day,johnjohn2_115.gif

key off and out, diconnect negitive side of battrey then postive.clean terimals, charge battrey, connect postive cable (with key off)connect negitive.and start.
your dead battrey is taking up a big load on system,so when you boost it the dead battrey is taking it all the starter is geeting vey little.thats the clicking.
if you dont have a charger dicconect both terminals the same way again, put the jumper cables on the dead battrey.let it charge battrey for 10 15 mins .the longer the better.remover jumpers.
with key off and out conected battrey terminals.connect jumper cables and start.
let me know if it start or not hopefully the key hasnt lost its coding.
