Question about 2003 Mitsubishi Galant

Tech A says that normal head bolt torque valves have a calculated safety factor of about 25% less then the max amount a bolt can be torqued without becoming permanently stretched. tech B says that the safety factor is about 5%. who is correct?

I would think that it would depend on the engine manufacturer that makes the specification in order to not stretch the bolt permanently.

I always just follow what is in the book using a torque wrench.

  1. Tighten cylinder head bolts to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.). Tighten bolts an additional 70 degrees plus 70 degrees plus 30 degrees using angular torque gauge .

Torque the cylinder head bolts for mitsubishi lancer 2002


Try this
I dont know which engine you have.

420a
1. Torque all center bolts to 25 ft-lbs, torque the 4 corner bolts to 25 ft-lbs
2. Torque all center bolts to 50 ft-lbs, torque the 4 corner bolts to 50 ft-lbs
3. Re-Torque all center bolts to 50 ft-lbs, re-torque the 4 corner bolts to 50 ft-lbs
4. Tighten all bolts in the sequence from #1-#10 an additional 1/4 turn.

7-Bolt 4G63
1. Torque all bolt to 58 ft-lbs in order
2. Loosen all bolts completely to 0 ft-lbs
3. Torque all bolts to 15 ft-lbs in order
4. Tighten all bolt 1/4 turn in order
5. Tighten all bolts an additional 1/4 turn in order.

ARP Head Studs
1. Tighten all bolts to 40 ft-lbs
2. Tighten in steps of 10 ft-lbs increments until the specified torque that you are looking for is reached. This can vary with the amount of boost you plan on running.

    Torque specs for mighty max


    Per my Chilton's manual tehe bolts should be (cold engine) 65 to 72 FT. Pnds., the cam shaft bearing bolts should be 8x25 = 15 - 19 Ft pnds and the 8x65 should be 14 - 15 Ft Pnds.

    The sequence is as follows for the (10 ) head bolts:

    7 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 10

    9 - 3 - 1 - 6 - 8
