Question about 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier
I had the same problem. If your car is equipped with a/c the fan will turn on. If the fan does not come on then relays and fuses should be checked. If it does come on then we know that fuses and relays are good to go. The computer in your car tells the fan to turn on when the car gets to 223 degrees (about 3/4 the way to red between the lines). Have a mechanic check your computer to see if the comeputer is interpreting the data correctly and grounding the relay to allow voltage to the fan. Both a/c and temp triggers through the same relay and same fuse an thus do the same thing; however with the a/c on the fan will be on no matter what the temp is.

Check fuses and relays first, then the tempature sending unit if all of that is ok then its the fan motor
