Question about 1999 Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

I Have a 1999 standard Hyundai Sonata 4L. I just got a new compressor put on the car, but the car isn't giving any cold air. It was also charged with freon, but still only gives a little bit of cold air. What could the problem be?

Yes, the solution was very helpful. I was thinking that maybe the radiator part had something to do with the problem.

    Thxs alot for your help.

If the compressor is running and the hose is cold coming from the compressor, your air temp control actuator may not be working. Here is a link to how to replace it. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairguide/repairGuideContent.jsp?pageId=0996b43f80377f58

I would replace the AC compressor cycling switch it may be sticking have seen it a number of times. The switch is located in the receiver dryer on the passenger side of the engine compartment. See picture below.

If this isn't the problem the AC compressor relay may also cause this, flip a coin.

You need to know if the compressor is working when the engine is running and the ac is switched on.

Air conditioning isn't as cold

You will need to have the AC pressures read to see if the charge is low. DO NOT just add refrigerant unless the pressure's indicate it is the problem, you can destroy the AC compressor very quickly. (1st hand knowledge)

1999 hyundai sonata cuts out after 5 miles of driving, we have wait about an hour and it will restart. We have replaced the fuel pump and still the same problem. we were told there was a fuel pump sensor,...

To me this sounds more like a IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) or your MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor) is bad and not reading correctly. The fuel pump sensor is an actual relay that you saw, its goes into the fuses. Not really sure what someone told you that it was, due to the fact that you do not have a sensor. Do you have any check engine lights on?

The o-rings are leaking..if you put a new compressor in, it is wise to service the whole system...especially if you are changing any major components.

My 02 sonata a/c system doesnt blow cold?

Ok... you wrote "lock was all dry but after i charge the system it start leaking from the same place that the original was leaking,(center of ac compressure.)" Sounds like you should have 'OVER HAULED' the existing/used compressor before installing it... OR bought a recondition/new compressor (ya think?). It appears both the original and used compressors have the same defect.

99 hyundai sonata airbag light and reset.

There are no campaigns/recalls for the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System - Air Bag). However, there is a Service Bulleting regarding the wiring harness under the seats:
DESCRIPTION: Motion of the side impact air bag wiring harness and connector may result in illumination of the air bag warning light and one or both diagnostic codes listed below:
  • B1378: Driver side air bag (DSAB) resistance high.
  • B1382: Passenger side air bag (PSAB) resistance high.
This campaign provides a new side impact air bag wiring harness connector mounting procedure. VEHICLES AFFECTED:
  • Model : 1999 - 2002 SONATA vehicles
  • Production date range: - Produced through July 23, 2001
  • VIN range: - Produced through KMHWF35H82A526636
SPECIAL NOTES: The service procedure to be followed depends on the original wire harness routing under the seats. The required parts are different for each procedure.
  • For vehicles produced on or before June 30, 1999, use the procedure for Type 1 seats. Order service kit part number 88010-38A00.
  • For vehicles produced on or after July 1, 1999, use the procedure for Type 2 seats. Order service kit part number 88010-38B00.
If your vehicle doesn't fall within the production range, it's not affected.
I recommend you take the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Department and ask them if your vehicle has had this repair already. If it doesn't apply, pay the diagnostic fee to find out what the problem is. They will give you an estimate of repairs (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).. Then you'll know what the problem is.
