You have to pull out the instrament cluster and and reset the o2 switch to turn off the light. Also the light comes on every 90k miles so it does not mean that the sensor is bad.

I pulled the front of the dash panel off and unscrewed what appeared to be a screw on eachside of the instrument panel and still could not remove the instrument panel. Any suggestions? This is a '93 Trooper.

There are one (or two) screww that come up from underneath the cluster that screww into the bottom. My 94 trooper has two brackets (underneath) but only the right side has a screw in it. Theleft side is not used apparently and is blocked by the steering column.

Do you mean that the check engine light stays on after you installed a new O2 sensor?

Check for codes, again, and go from there.

After reading up on your particular vehicle, the 1992 Isuzu Trooper,
I found that there are two types of O2 sensors used in these vehicles.

One is screwed into the exhaust manifold. The other is further down the line, I believe.

Did you change both, if there are two?

    Oxygen Sensor
There are two types of oxygen sensor's used in these vehicles. They are the single wire oxygen sensor (O2S) and the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). The oxygen sensor is a spark plug shaped device that is screwed into the exhaust manifold. It monitors the oxygen content of the exhaust gases and sends a voltage signal to the Electronic Control Module (ECM). The ECM monitors this voltage and, depending on the value of the received signal, issues a command to the mixture control solenoid on the carburetor to adjust for rich or lean conditions.
The heated oxygen sensor has a heating element incorporated into the sensor to aid in the warm up to the proper operating temperature and to maintain that temperature.
The proper operation of the oxygen sensor depends upon four basic conditions:

    1. Good electrical connections. Since the sensor generates low currents, good clean electrical connections at the sensor are a must.
    2. Outside air supply. Air must circulate to the internal portion of the sensor. When servicing the sensor, do not restrict the air passages.
    3. Proper operating temperatures. The ECM will not recognize the sensor's signals until the sensor reaches approximately 600°F (316°C).
    4. Non-leaded fuel. The use of leaded gasoline will damage the sensor very quickly.

02 sensor light stays on after installing new one, now what?

The O2 sensor automatically comes on after so many miles, doesn't even have to be bad. You have to take the dash down and there is a tiny little screw that you need to move. The light will go out, but it will.still work. It's been awhile since I did this, but I believe it almost directly below it.

What is O2 light censur on my 1992 Isuzu trooper

Hi there,

An O2 sensor (also known a HEGO or HO2s) is an electrical 'probe' which is screwed into your exhaust pipe/s (you will see an electrical wire connecting into your exhaust pipe).

Each exhaust pipe will have an O2 sensors (sometines 2 per side - one mounted in front of the catalytic converter and one after the converter).

An HO2 sensor is responsible for heating up the exhaust gas (when starting vehicle from cold) to aid the computer in delivering the correctly Fuel/Air mixture. Once the engine reaches normal operating temperature, the heater section on the O2 sensor then turns off, providing normal exhaust gas measurement for appropriate fuel/air mixture.

An HO2 sensor is critical in the efficient running of an engine.

Hope this helps,

O2 light stays on

You're lucky you have an O2 sensor light, which most cars do not have.
Did you change both O2 sensors?

I just recently bought this 1992 Isuzu Trooper and love it but knew that the speedometer didn't work which the seller provided me with a TomTom to tell me my speed but today the speedometer worked for some...

I have a Trooper of the same year and have the same problem. I think it's the speed senser that's on the left rear side of the Transfer case (4x4) model. It is very expensive. I hadn't replace mine yet.

I have a 1992 Izuzu Trooper...just hit the 180K mark on mileage...and the O2 light came on...what does that mean?

most likely that your O2 sensor has gone bad. this affects fuel mileage and power you need to hookup a scan tool and have it checked out.

Ok well I Have 2 1992 Troopers, The Speed Sensor is On the Transfer case. The Shop Manual, don't give the exact Location of the Sensor, But i can tell you is that it is held in there by a Bracket that has only one bolt holding it to the transfer case. it Should be the only thing on the case that has a Long skinny cable coming out of it.
