When driving the temperature gauge slowly creeps into the red zone and the warning symbol appears. When I try putting on the heat to move air off of the engine the air doesn't come out as hot as it should.

Sounds like a restriction in the cooling system that can be solved by flushing and reinstalling fresh antifreeze.

Warning: if someone put coolant sealant into the system, the system may leak after this.

Solution: Replace any leaky parts with new parts.

No outside temperature just shows the temperature outside the car the snowflake symbol will not show up until it is cold enough outside it has 2 stages yellow is an initial warning of cold temperatures when it gets to freezing the symbol will turn red.
The outside temp warning is not connected to anything mechanical only the engine temerature gauge is so dont worry it will not affect the running of the car but is just there as a warning of falling temperatures outside.

To cool off your Toyota after it has been parked in the hot sun, drive with the windows open for a few minutes. This vents the hot air, allowing the air conditioning to cool the interior more quickly.

Make sure the air intake grilles in front of the windshield are not blocked (by leaves or snow, for example).

On humid, do not blow cold air on the windshield. The windshield could fog up because of the difference in air temperature on the inside and outside of the windshield.

Keep the area under the front seats clear to allow air to circulate throughout the vehicle.

On cold days, set the fan speed to high for a minute to help clear the intake ducts of snow or moisture. This can reduce the amount of fogging on the windows.

When driving on dusty roads, close all windows. If dust thrown up b the vehicle is still drawn into the vehicle after closing the windows, it is recommended that the in intake be set to FRESH and the fan speed to any setting except "OFF".

If following another vehicle on a dusty road, or driving in windy and dusty conditions, it is recommended that the air intake be temporarily set to RECIRCULATE, which will close off the outside passage and prevent outside air and dust from entering the vehicle interior.

HEATING

For best results, set controls to;
Fan speed ---- Any setting except "OFF"
Temperature----Towards WARM (red zone)
Air intake ---- FRESH (outside air)
Air flow ---- FLOOR
Air conditioning ---- OFF

For quick heating, select recirculated air for a few minutes. To keep the windows from fogging, select fresh after the vehicle has been warmed.

Press the "A/C" button on for dehumidified heating.

Choose floor/windshield air flow to heat the voltage interior while defrosting or defogging the windshield.

AIR CONDITIONING

For best results, set controls to;

Fan speed --- Any setting except 'OFF"
Temperature --- Towards COLD (blue zone)
Air intake --- (outside air)
Air flow --- PANEL
Air conditioning --- ON

For quick cooling, move the air intake selector to recirculate for a few minutes.

VENTILATION

For best results, set controls to;

Fan speed --- Any setting except 'OFF"
Temperature --- Towards COLD (blue zone)
Air intake --- (outside air)
Air flow --- PANEL
Air conditioning --- ON

DEFOGGING

The inside of the windshield

For best results, set controls to:

Air intake --- FRESH (outside air)

Mini Cooper temperature gauge goes to red zone when idle


check coolant level could be too low allowing air in the cooling system causing air pocket in engine around the engine coolant sensor.coolant sensor needs to be in hot coolant so it will cause the cooling fan to come on at a set temperature.make sure coolant correct level and the coolant level in the cooling overflow jug should be at full cold mark.the cooling overflow jug should never be empty,if you see empty cooling overflow jug air got in the cooling system so make sure when engine cold every time raise hood make sure cooling overflow jug coolant level at full cold mark.if jug stay empty you have cooling leak.so replace radiator cap,if coolant level all good,i would replace the engine coolant temperature and thermostat.when your car come to a long stop or driving along long line of slow moving traffic the engine coolant blower motor should running if not have vechicle code scan for faulty coolant fan motor control module.or ecm problems.

If the temp is high at freeway speeds then the thermostat would be suspect. If the temp is high in slow traffic then suspect the cooling fans or its controls

make sure that the coils, ( the ac radiator ) are clean , blow them out with an air hose if you can get a hold of one, also, make sure the ac fan is coming on, it may start , but the sensor may be bad allowing it to turn off too soon , a normal rise in heat is expected when using the AC but if it is too hot you should feel the motor start to run rough, if its running fine, and the temp does move back to normal when the ac is turned off, and a qualified mechanic has checked it, your probably ok, you could have a sensitive gauge, , If the normal range of the gauge moves to hot and back during normal driving without the ac on, that would show the thermostat is also working

This is normal. The gauge should sit at around the 1/2 mark. And it will go up at idle until the fans kick on then go back down some. Fans will kick on around 210 degress

I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra. The temperature gauge keeps fluctuating up and down. Usually if I'm stopped at a red light and just idling, the gauge will creep up into the red area and then go back down...


I have seen this happen to a few cars when they were running REALLY low on coolant (anti-freeze) AND/OR had a major air pocket trapped in the cooling system.
Heres whats going on:
The gauge is driven by a temperature sensor that sticks into the cooling system. When your really low on coolant, some times the temperature sensor is exposed to air, instead of liquid coolant and the temperature of the sensor drops. As your driving around sometimes liquid coolant touches the sensor and the temperature reading will spike again to normal readings or to an even hotter reading then normal (because what little fluid is in the system is not enough to maintain proper temps).
If you recently filled up or topped off the coolant from a low coolant situation then you may have a major air bubble locked in the system, although this is far less likely in the small Sentra cooling system, but you never know.
Lastly, the sensor itself or the plug into the sensor is loose, broken, or shorting. You or someone you know can try to locate the coolant sensor for the gauge and see if the connect to the sensor is loose or the wire have become damaged, giving you readings all over the place.
