How do i hook up my battery wires in my 1992 chevy pickup

how was it hooked up before you started working on it. the black wire is the negative cable and that is the body ground and most bolt it to the engine or a bracket and there is a short wire sometimes and that will goto the body near the battery. now that is done. the positive red wire goes to the starter and or a block that has a wire going to the starter. the block is more like a metal strip with a bunch of bolts sticking out and the wires should be all red. that is mounted to the firewall and is plastic so it does not ground to the body.the short wire from the positive red cable is not always used. so if it was not hooked to anything leave it alone.

What wires go to the starter on a 97 3.8 chevy

there should be a large red wire mated with a smaller black wire, these connect to the large nut on the starter solenoid.there is also a small black wire thea gets connected to the small nut in the center of the salinoid this wire is the signal wire.bolting the starter to the engine is how the starter grounds.red wire is the main power sourse from the battery and the small black wire comes from the ignition switch bolted to the steering colom

I have a 2008 ford escape 2wd 3.0 and i put a new starter on it and when i reconnect the battery the starter starts to wind and i don't have the key in the ignition. What did i do wrong?

there are two large bolt electrical terminals on most starters one has nothing on it ,thats where the battery wire hooks up + and the other (looks just like other one) has a small bent piece of metal that connects to starter under it's bolt that's Not where you hook battery , if you did hook it there the starter would run as soon as you hook up battery
ooh and the two bolts and anything connected to them can not touch each other or anything else
try looking at that

HOW DO YOU GET TO THE BATTERY TO CHANGE IT IN A 2004 INTREPID

Under the hood should be a Jump start /charging post that is connected to the battery. Look on the pass side for rubber caps that cover a brass post. Hook up your charger here, Red is positive, Black is the ground side or just hook the ground to any solid metal part of the engine.

I took the starter off and iknow i have a ground wire to put on behind the starter on the tranmission, and i know that the red wire goes on thee another cable that is black and i want to know if that wire...

The red wire is NOT a ground wire It's the live one It goes on the starter solenoid terminal The large Black one is the ground wire which will either go on the end of the motor or on a mounting bolt DON'T ground the red one You'll have a fire not to mention computer fryups etc

Need tourque for 97 dodge intrepid engine heads. engine is 3.5

Perform it in 4 steps.
first- 45 ft.lbs
2nd- 65 ft.lbs.
3rd- 65 ft lbs again.
4th- 1/4 turn more.
After 4th step, you should have more than 90 ft.lbs. if not, replace bolt.
Also make sure you do proper sequence, as well as check all bolts (unless you bought all new) to make sure they haven't been stretched. Use a straightedge and lay threads on it to make sure they all touch straightedge.

Need to replace the starter on the 97 mitsubishi Diamante, how hard is it to remove and replace ?

To replace the starter you need to;
) Note if you have an anti-thief system and now to reset it if the battery is disconnected.
) Note the radio station selections if they are not saved if the battery is disconnected.

Now
) Disconnected the GROUND connector on the battery.
) Disconnect the electrical cable on the battery.
) Remove the 2 bolts holding the starter on. Remove the harder one to reach first.
) Pull the old starter out.
) Insert the new starter.
) Replace the bolt. Insert the easier bolt first.
) Tighten the bolts.
) Replace the electrical cable.
) Reconnect the GROUND connector on the battery.
) Reset any radio, clock or anti-thief systems.
) Return old starter for a core charge refund.
