If your lucky, your car is still under warranty. If your warranty is over, you can go to Auto Zone and have the car scanned for the DTC codes. The DTC codes will inform you the issues that need to be addressed so you can have your car running 100% again. Note: Auto Zone scan free of charge and can give you the step by step instruction to address the issues free of charge and if there are any parts that need to be replace, there parts price are reasonable and most of the time are life time replacements. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% again soon

SOURCE: reduced engine power on

The traction control uses the speed sensor in the transmission and the wheel speed sensors to determine wheel spin. If a wheel spins braking is applied to it so that the power can be transferred to the other wheels. At some point the ECU detected a gross disagreement between the sensors and so as a precaution has entered into a limp home mode. On some systems if the fault is in error it can be cleared by putting the car into drive and moving forward a meter, putting in reverse and going a back a meter and doing this three times. If one or other of the sensors are faulty this process will not allow the error to be cleared. You need to check or have checked the error codes and the speed sensors.

try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes to reset the complete system. a few different things cause the reduced power to activate, oil pressure, coolant temp, traction control. I use my snap-on MT2500 to locate these types of problems

What does "Reduced Power, Traction Fault" mean?

GM's power strategy will reduce power if it doesn't see proper charging. It does this to conserve battery power by shutting off non-essential electrical accessories. It can also mean that the traction control system is reducing engine power to avoid a skid. The traction control system gets input data from the wheel speed sensors to figure out if you're entering a skid or the wheels are locking up. One way to get you out of the skid is to reduce engine power or pump your ABS brakes. In your case you should get the trouble codes read. An ABS or traction code code could be a C, U or B code which can't be seen by a cheap scan tool or the tools they use at auto parts stores. GM had major problems with the ABS wheel speed sensors built into the wheel bearing hubs in these vehicles. The fix involved replacing the hub. So get the codes read by a pro scanner to find out which wheel sensor is setting the code. Then do the fix. Also, the P0128 is usually caused by a bad thermostat. Fix that first, because if the engine doesn't get up to operating temperature, the computer can limit some features.

Reduced power light came on right after abs fault light came on

Firstly, you will have to perform a jump start, using another vehicle or battery.

I suspect that your alternator may have failed, so please do the following:

1) With vehicle running, use a voltmeter across the battery terminals. If charging is lower than 13.5 volts, then you can replace the alternator.
2) If charging can go up to 14 volts when revving the engine slightly, then go to 3
3) With engine off, check voltage across battery terminals. If lower than 12.4 volts, and if alternator check was okay, then replace the vehicle battery and retry.

Engine power reduced, service traction

when you have the fault codes read to find the exact sensor failure or cause , have it fixed then reset the ecm as the ecm will reduce the performance(limp mode) for safety reasons

What does reduced power traction fault mean? When I crank my 2004 chevy colorado up it will istantly die and then I have to wait a few minutes and crank it up again, it will die again. After I am able to...

Other people I've read about have this problem which may be attributable to a bad PCM connector or even bad gasoline (I've read).

One person had a random fault code that went away with driving.
They only had 4600 mi. on their vehicle.

Good luck on this one.
