first of all you should take your car to an authorized mechanic that has an EVAC system to capture the freon.
If yours has all leaked out, or if you have a discussion with your freon and it promises not to eat away the O-zone layer, do the following:
disconnect the 2 padded freom lines going into the compressor with a 10mm socket. This is assuming the system is empty!
There are 4 bolts about 5-6" long attaching the compressor to the engine block. remove these with a 10mm socket.
Pull the compressor away from the motor and remove the belt.
work it out of the engine bay and replace with the new compressor.

caution...the freom is under extreme pressure, make sure the system is empty before attempting***

Engine idles fast when AC in use but returns to normal after a minute or so even after cleaning IAC valve. Normal idle with no AC. Thoughts?

Year/make/model/engine size?? It is not uncommon for the idle to raise slightly when AC on to overcome extra load caused by compressor/fan operation. How much higher is the idle?

Motor cuts out

Depending on the make model and year, you should have a device that will raise idle speed to cover the load put on the engine by the ac compressor. That device may not be working, or the compressor may be pulling the engine down too much.

Relays click when interior fan is on

Often the click which can be heard when the A.C. kicks in is the clutch on the A.C. compressor. Be sure that it isn't just this sound which you are hearing.
Also check the operation of the idle control valve which is supposed to raise the engine revs to compensate for heavy power drain. If this isn't working correctly, then this would explain the lights dimming under low revs.

Ac works but when compressor cycles, it wont come back on until i rev engine to 4500 to 5000 rpm's and compressor kicks back on until it cycles again. i have to repeat reving engine every time com

you need to check the pressure of the system if the system is a little low on freon it will cycle more also if the cooling fan is not working the pressure will raise and also shut off

Engine idles fine till you turn on a.c. then slow & shakes badly

Hello good sir or mam

So here is goes when you turn on your ac system you put a harder load on you engine as it engages the ac compressor clutch. That being said if you are low on freon your ac compressor will be harder to turn as refrigerant contains oil for your system too.

You may also want to check your serpentine belt as a worn belt will cause this to look for frays, cracks,or a depth Gage. also you may need a tune up check your spark plugs, igniton coil, and or distributor cap & rotor if applicable older models.

You may also need to replace your idle air control valve as it can definatlly cause this

well i hope it helps if so please leave 4 thumbs up

The ac is blowing out only hot air

  1. Have your A/C's Freon pressure tested. If it is low, have it charged with new freon.
  2. If your Freon is at the correct level, your Compressor or Compressor Clutch may have gone bad.
  3. When you turn your A/C on, can you tell if the compressor kicks on? Usually you will feel a slight shudder from the engine, or you will hear the RPM's slightly raise and then level out. The temperature blend door may be stuck (if a/c compressor kicks-in)
