SOURCE: replaced clutch slave cylinder blew

Could be a couple of different things.
1) your clutch master has a plugged pressure bypass, and it is sending excessive pressure to the slave and blowing it out.
2) The clutch throw out arm is bound, and will not allow the slave to compress it.
3) The replacement slave was defective.

What was the reason for replacing the slave in the first place?

SOURCE: BLEEDING CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER

I have often found that the very action of bleeding the clutch causes the slave piston to move forward drawing any air away from the bleed nipple.
Try pushing the piston all the way to the back of the cylinder and holding it there in some way and if you can detach the slave from the gearbox, allow it to hang by the hydraulic pipe and this in it self will cause any air to rise to the rear part of the slave and hopefully out through the bleed nipple.
Because I did this job regularly on MG Midgets which gave you a 6" by 2" access hole at the bottom of the drivers side footwell to carryout this operation I eventually made up a tool from a piece of flat bar and a long bolt, I used the mounting holes of the slave and two nuts and bolts to hold the flat bar and the long bolt via a welded nut on the flat bar to push the piston back.

if you loosten the slave bleeder screw and push in the clutch pedal fluid should come out if not make sure someone holds down the pedal and tighten the screw then pump the clutch a few times and hold the pedal and open the screw if no fluid repeat a couple of times if still no fluid you need either a new master cylinder or just rebuild it( normally cheaper) and if you rebuild it make sure you flush all the lines of debris

i think youre doing the right thing. they are very stubborn to bleed because the hyd. line goes up high across back of engine before droppiing back down to slave cyl., trapping air. could try to gravity bleed by opening bleeder at slave, cap off of master cyl, full with fluid then it may start to come out after a bit. then try your process again. or can try to bleed at connections further up the line, working your way back to bleeder. hope this helps. be patient.

1990 chevy silverado wont disingage new clutch and pressureplate...master cylinder and slave cylinders are new and have been bleed extensively...cant figure out why it wont fully disingage


this is really a simple problem to fix. Pull the gear box and turn the clutch pale around because the plate hub centre is hitting on the flywheel stud heads . The clutch plate only go in one way.

Clutch pedal sticks coming back up when released quickly


You need to inspect the feed line if the return line is squezed or kinked in any place it will impede return and the cylinder will seem stuck. If the lines are servicable remove the cylinder and bench test and bleed. it might be a burr left in the cylinder. Also check travel of the pedal without the system in place. Finally When I replace one of these units I have to bleed it out of the vehicle with another person holding the slave cylinder because there is no bleed screw on the slave cylinder. If you removed the little brass screw you broke it. I find there is no way to get out all the air unless the slave cylinder is held verticle with consant pressure applied to the throw arm. Then when bled reinsert into vehicle.

I take it that you are talking clutch system . There will be little pressure in the master cyl side until you bleed out all the air. The suction you feel is when the piston returns and draws in more fluid from the reservoir so that there is a full charge of fluid for the next stroke. remove the bleed screw and place your finger over the hole and use your finger as a valve until you get full fluid flow. Replace the bleed screw and finally bleed out the air . that got in while you were replacing the screw.

When the pedal refuses to return it is probably that there is no fluid in the resevoir due to the fact that it has all leaked out at the slave cylinder. Refil and bleed the clutch system and check for oil leaking at slave cylinder.It is a good system that pushes the pedal back upand the spring holds it up.

How do I bleed the air from a clutch master cylinder on a 1990 C1500 truck?


Find the bleed screw on the transmission,fill the reservoir for the master,then bleed it at the master if possible,by push one time to the floor,and shutting the bleed screw ,then do it two to three times,but just push it once,do not pump,then move down to the slave and do the same thing.If this was at all helpful,please rate thank you.

Hi, my 1999 chevy 1500 4.3 5spd transmission needs the clutch bled. How do you access the clutch slave. I was under the truck and cannot figure out how to access it. THanks PArker


do you know where the clutch fork is?the "slave" cylinder is attached/or located on driver side of transmission bell housing,. you should see a bleed valve just like the one on your brake cylinders or calipers.

YES U DO THE SLAVE CYLINDER IS ATTACHED TO THE CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING.
