Gremlins? Wow, ok. This sounds like a problem with the Fuel tank but being this new you shouldn't have this. In the gas tank there is a baffle that keeps the gas near the fuel pump. I hate to recommend it but remove the fuel pump and see if the sock on the end has come free or if the pump has an issue with the safety switch. There is a switch in the pump that causes it to cut out if it detects the vehicle is inverted or side ways. That would be the only reason it would work when it's jacked up and not work when it is down.

so it wont even turn over if this is activated?

  • James Young Jul 11, 2010

Yes the safety switch is designed to cut the fuel off by interrupting the fuel pump in the event of a roll over. Remove the pump and position it like it would be positioned if the vehicle where elevated in the front then see if the pump works. If it does you know this was the problem and can replace it.. It is possible the safety switch is not part of the pump unit but to my knowledge these switches were made part of the pump. To verify you would have to get the Haynes repair manual on the vehicle. Based on your observation that elevating the front end allows the vehicle to start and run I have to say the roll over safety switch is the problem.

no I dont think it is a fuel issue as the car wont even turn over. It is as if the starter is not getting the voltage to turn. I have checked the starter and it is good. The relay? is not switching to activate the solenoid.

2004 Ford explorer PATS issue

The issue with the key is because the car battery ran down. This can be compounded if you jump started it.

2004 Taurus My extra key would not start the car and has not been used for months because of this problem (it would crank but not turn over) so I went to dealer to get a new back up key made (two days...

Need to take it back to the dealer so that they can program both keys correct. there should not be any more charges for this being they did not do it right the first time.

Idles rough and no power. No color to exhaust.

sounds like an ignition coil has an open internally, its easy to replace. I am figuring its a regular 3.0 .

2004 Taurus won't start, only clicking noise when I turn the key.

It sounds like it could be the starter solenoid. I would remove the battery and have it tested, then when the battery is put back in make sure all battery connections are clean and tight. If you go to, you can register your vehicle for free and have access to a full online repair manual. Good luck and hope this helps.

Car engine wont turn over

it sounds like either the key is going bad (chip inside) or the PAT's immobilizer system is not detecting a key is inserted with the correct code. If you remove the column surround you will see connectors just make sure all of these are secure, watch the yellow one do not disconnect it as its the airbag and theres a chance of it deploying.
Also try your spare ignition key if you have one.

If all is ok i'm afraid you may need to make a trip to ford for them to diagnose, the pat's system works well almost too well sometimes. i deal alot with them while installing remote starts and when they go wrong its almost always the dealer to resolve it. They have the computer software to test the system.
