Question about 2006 Lincoln Town Car

2 Answers

I have an 06 lincoln town car and an 07 I recently had the airbag clock spring replaced on the 07 and then had the 06 airbag light come on. On the 07 the light simply came on and stayed on without any beeping or flashing. I replaced the clock spring on the 06 but this did not solve the problem. It beeps once...possibly pauses then 4 times more, or five beeps continuous. The light flashes once then pauses then 8 more times

I mentioned in my "question" that I had a clock spring installed on my 07 lincoln towncar, it was installed professionally and fixed the problem. I had the pleasure of actually assisting in its repair, as the mechanic is my fulltime mechanic. When the light started flashing on my 06 it actually seemed to be flashing a code, as was the beeping. Light, 1 blink, then pause and 8 blinks. Beep, 5 beeps.

The air bag light is another warning indicator that may illuminate on your dashboard. Airbag problems can be much more complicated to repair than let's say check engine light problems.
In fact it is recommended that servicing of this important safety system should be performed by professional technicians.
Since the supplemental restraint system (SRS) has been deployed since the 80s the problem of the illuminated air bag light is becoming more common on these aging systems.

Keep in mind that these are very complicated systems and many things can cause the warning light to flash, stay on or not come on at all. In a perfect world everybody would have a scan tool capable of communicating with the SRS module. Some vehicle manufacturers require a scan tool for diagnosis.
If electrical contact should be disrupted between the module and the air bag clock spring a code will be set and the air bag light may flash to indicate that there is a problem. Since this is one of the only components that are constantly moving in the SRS system it is also one of the most common failures.
Replacement of the SRS clockspring requires the removal of the airbag assembly and the steering wheel as well.

Did you use the scantool to reset the system after replacing the clock spring? That could make a big difference.

1998 Ford Towncare has an airbag code 32 - 3 flashes than 2 flashes, what does this mean

this code means driver side air bag circuit high resistance or open. in a ford, this is usually a bad clock spring. the clock spring is behind the steering wheel. these can be a little bit tricky to replace. the steering wheel will have to be removed. total time would pay 1.3 hours at a shop.

Airbag light is on

Check to see if the horn works. If not then the clock spring for the airbag needs to be replaced. This part is also known as the airbag igniter.

95 lincoln airbag light on

When the airbag light (SRS) is on or blinks it means a fault has occurred in the system and the airbag diagnostic monitor has disabled the system, the most common problem that turns the light on is a break in the connection to the steering wheel mounted airbag, this is due to a rotating ribbon contact that breaks under the steering wheel that connects the airbag to the wiring harness and the diagnostic monitor, the part is called the clock spring contact, a coiled up ribbon electrical contact that turns with the steering wheel while maintaining a mechanical connection to the airgag mounted on the steering wheel, to replace this part you must disarm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel, this requires a special steering wheel puller tool and that you disarm the airbag system before you start the work, to do this disconnect the battery negative cable for 1 hour prior.

1997 lincoln town car sounds continuously, have pulled horn relay and security system will go off in the middle of the night - can reset with key fob. Is the problem a horn switch or clock spring?

this is most likely due to a defective door open/ajar sensor, it is not related to the horn pad/airbag, this happens during hot days from horn pad warping due to heat, have the driver door ajar switch replaced.

Airbag light flashes 4 times and pauses

browntoni22: the code it self is "Potential short in Air Bag system"
CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are playing with Explosives!!!
Working on a safety restraint system can be very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. There is a procedure to diagnose the problem which entails using a jumper wire for part of the diagnosis. Just as an example: emissionwiz mentioned a clock spring. This can be damaged by the installer very easily if they don't know what they are doing.
It is designed to rotate only so many revolutions. IF the installer was not paying attention and the clock spring had been out of the packing prior to their receiving it, it could have been rotated one or several revolutions. So when the installer puts the clock spring in place and goes to turn the steering wheel in one direction, it's fine but in the other direction, it will destroy the part!
Anyway, to sum it up in a nutshell, leave this job to a pro.

Airbag light flashes while driving my 1994 Linc TC 114,000 mi

it is flashing a code at u, this indicates the coiled rotating contact under the steering wheel has an open circuit in the airbag connection to the steering column, this contact is called the airbag clock-spring rotating contact, the steering wheel must be removed to replace it, CAUTION: The Airbag must be dis-armed before you remove it from the steering wheel, if it goes off u can be seriously injured.

Airbag light flash all the time

Most likely cause of this is the contact ribbon under the steering wheel has an open circuit, the part is called a AIRBAG CLOCK-SPRING CONTACT.
