Question about 1990 Ford Econoline

I HAVE A 1990 HIGH TOP VAN E-150 302 MOTOR 29,000 ORINGIAL MILES SHOWROOM CONDITION. IT STARTED UNTIL RECENTLY . MY PROBLEM IT IS NOT GET ANY FUEL TO THE ENGINE. IF I PUT FUEL DIRECTLY INTO THE MOTOR IT STARTS UP. IT IS A DUEL TANK WITH A SELECTOR SWITCH. TANK GAGE IS NOT WORKING, NEIITHER OF THE INTANK PUMPS ARE WORKING. IT SEEMS LIKE IT HAS NO POWER.I CHECKED ALL FUSES AND HAS FRESH GAS IN THE TANKS. I WOULD APPREICATE IT IF YOU COULD GIVE ME SOME IDEA ON WHAT TO LOOK FOR OR IF I CAN BUY SOME KIND OF BOOKS. You can go to autozone . com and register for free. Then login, choose your vehicle, then select view repair manual for a free repair manual for your van. Otherwise, chilton or hayes manuals are great! Napa sells them for about $12

I would check your fuel pump relay, or test it with an ohmmeter. You can use an ohmmeter to test it.

Also, you can test power to the relay and to the fuel pump with a voltmeter. If no power, then either relay is bad, or no power from the ECM.
Another thing I would test is the fuel pressure regulator and change your fuel filter. That is all the main parts of the fuel system.

Hi! If thats the case then the problem will be on the fuel pump. If the fuel pump is faulty it wont get any fuel to supply to the engine. Once replaced you'll be good. Theres a haynes or chilltons manual available on the bookstore or auto parts supply that can guide you through. Just look for the model of your car. Hope this helps and have a good one!

    Alright, thanks for the clarification. We may be facing a faulty PCM (powertrain control module). If its the PCM it will need to be resetted for it to work again. It has connectivity to every electrical current flow in the car.

it will not be a chain as you blew out the cylinders to get rid of the excess fuel by turning it over
no-- I would be looking for problem with the injector control, fuel pressure
if you have spark and compression then the thing missing is fuel

My 1990, 150van wont start. It cranks over and there is no spark coming out of the top of the coil, that is the wire to the distributor. I suppose that would be the secondary side of the coil.


Make sure you have power on the LT terminals on the coil with the ignition on, without this you will not get a HT spark.
Also make sure the points in the distributor are in good condition and gapped correctly
With the dist cap removed and the ignition on you should see a LT spark across the points when the engine is cranked. You can also check this by turning the engine by hand until the points are open and with the ignition on, bridge the points to make sure a spark is present. There could be a capacitor within the distributor that may need changing.
Do not buy a coil until you are confident the Low Tension circuit is in good condition

I have a 1990 Lincoln Mark 7...only has 29,000 miles on it. Every now and then it will not start. It turns over..(new battery). Seems like its not getting fuel. What does the fuel cut off switch look like?...


Yes the on-off switch is for the air ride. The fuel cut-off switch should be labeled on one of the panels in the trunk. They hide it behind the panel, but give you a hole you can put your finger through to reset the button. If you have an owners manual, it will tell you exactly where to find it, but I'm thinking passenger side trunk, just below the trunk lid hinge.

You change oxygen sensors? thoses are now considered part of of tuneup on high mileage engines,plus if you drive highway for 30-49 miles before going gettting emissions testing you get better results.

Car runs and drives but 10-15 miles it dies and wont run until cools off


Dear Sir,
As you said your car stop after 10-15 miles run.and start working after 10 to 15 min wait.
It can occur due a part or unit which defer working according to temperature. it means it stop working when it got hot and start working when it get cold. this type of parts are motors which have winding unit inside it, which can stop working in high temperature, it will not happen if they are good working condition but if that is got short then it can happen.
In your case cause is the fuel pump which is in fuel tank,Till it is cold it supply the fuel to engine but after few miles run it stop sending fuel to engine ,after wait for 10 to 15 it again start sending fuel to engine when it get cold.
Fuel pump will solve your problem. if any issue please let me know. Thanks.

yes sounds like the fuel filter is clogged when push gas pedal put it in clear flood mood and resets the fuel system and starts over thats why it starts when push to floor creates back pressure sucks debri bottom of filter

check the fuel pressure before and after its running i asume its fuel injected
