How to flush a heater core

When you flush your radiator, the heater core gets flushed as well. You will have to run the vehicle untill the heater is blowing hot air during the flush, that way its going through the thermostat. Empty the radiator as per normal and thats it.

I have 260K on my 2004 2.7 santa fe. A little steam escapes from the top of the radiator when it is up to temp. It has never overheated (yet), but I am worried that I need a new radiator. I have never...

Well i suggest to never use stop leak because it will clog up cooling ports not only in the radiator but the engine also. I would flush the whole system you can purchase a flush kit at a local parts store. it is usually a cleaner that you run threw the system let the engine get up to temp for a while then drain everything after it cools down and take the thermostat out of the system usually i will leave the hose disconnected at the thermostat instead and stick a water hose in the radiator turn on and let it flush sometimes you have to start your vehicle but make sure you don't over heat it. If you can tell that there is a crack in the radiator i would replace it stop leak in my line of work is a no no it causes more issues that solves. If you have any more questions pleas let me know and leave good feedback please.

Yes it is normal just no hot air

1. When setting the temperature to MAX, blower level to FULL and outside air Vent CLOSED, no hot air comes out after 2-5 minutes?
If YES, when did you last flushed your radiator and is it full?
2. if more than 5 years ago, flush radiator system, instructions are usually in Owners manual. Use a bottle of Radiator cleaner, run egine hot for about 10-15 minutes, carefully open petcock in bottom of radiator to flush out radiator, WARNING, careful as flushed coolant would be boiling hot. As sson petcock is open and water start to flow out, carefully open radiator cap to enhance flushing flow. Use garden hose to fill radiator while flushing until water coming out from petcock is cold and clear.
Once clear, start engine, turn heter full and blower full blast and keep hose in radiator flowing full, leave petcock open until clear water flows out again. Once clear waters comes out, turn off engine, turn off garden hose and let water drain empty radiator. Once it stops flowing out, close petcock snug and put radiator cap on, pull off radiator coolant catch bottle, clean bottle for any debris and dirt. Drain any water, leave bottle empty and put it back onto its place.
3. Fill radiator with 1 gallon (4L) of concentrated coolant, top up radiator until full, fill catch bottle with concentrated coolant, start engine and keep it overflowing until no bubbles comes out and the radiator is fully hot. Once it is flowing good, close and connect everything. Drive with it and keep catch bottle filled as necessarry.
Good luck. Give as vote and good comment if this advise solve youor problem. Thank you.

I have two questions. I have a 1990 4.2 liter Jeep Wrangler. It was sitting for 2 years and would jump but not charge. I replaced the alternator. Now it will charge but only to about 8-10 on the gauge....

well if u didnt yet buy a new battery. Batteries can only be charged so many times. With new alternator and battery it should be fine. Now with it sitting for 2 years im sure the radiator needs to be flushed. Change belt. Then empty the radiator fluid and run fresh water though it. I usually leave the drain plug out stick the garden hose in and let the water run with engine off till it comes out clean. But what you should do is empty it. put drain plug back in.Fill it with just plain water run it for a little while 20-25 min. let it cool. empty it again and it should clean it out. then fill it the 50/50 way. They also sell radiator cleaner. Water pump usually leaks when its bad.

Overheating 2001 pontiac aztek

remove coolant.remove thermostat remove bottom radiator hose to water pump.put a empty container under the radiator.take a water hose put it where thermostat goes flush out the rust in the water as it come out the water pump .if stream water is small keep flushing until you get a study sream of clear water. also flush out radiator. lower water pressure dont flush radiator it with high water pressure you could burst it. make clean the over flow jug .make sure it not stopped up.put in a new thermostat and radiator pressure cap. fill radiator with half antifreeze and half water.bleed the coolant system.
