Question about 1996 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

I HAVE A 1996 GMC WITH A 154000 MILES ON A 5.7L ENGINE. IT ALWAYS HAD A LITE VALVE TAP WHEN IT FIRST STARTED, ESPECALLY IN THE COLDER MONTHS. THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS THE VALVE TAPPPING HAS GOTTEN LOUDER AND SOUNDS LIKE ITS COMEING FROM THE TOP OF THE ENGINE NOT JUST THE ONE SPOT.IT GOES AWAY AFTER THE ENGINE REACHES RUNNING TEMP. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO QUIET DOWN THE NOISE OR DO I REPLACE THE LIFTERS, I THINK THAT THEY ARE ROLLER STYLE.

2003 dodge intrepid taps loudly after warmup

your doing good if you have 245000 miles on it,the lifters or tappets loose there prime and flatten out it is not uncommon for dodge to do this.if the engine runs smooth leave it alone.other wise you would have to replace internal parts,u could try to put some tranny fluid in the engine before your next oil change ,only 1 quart though.dont run to long 15 to 20 minutes.if tap does not go away you probly have worn internal parts.not much u can do besides replace lifters, big job.

Poor gas milage?

Thinking you are getting poor gas milage,Your engine is running smooth,no misses,Engine runs smooth while accelerating up a hill, Still poor gas milage, Check your tire pressure. I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer 4x4, 4.3 Ltr. Auto, loaded. I have just over 154000 miles on it,I change my fluids every 5000 miles. Summer driving milage got real bad. I drive a Blazer hard. I tow a 16ft trailor usally loaded to the top with wood. Tires get hot in the summer, while in the winter, they stay mostly cool. Always check your air pressure. Most vehicals are equipted with radials now days, So if you think a tire looks low, check it, Usally they low. Usally in the winter months, nobody checks tire pressure. It really does make a difference. I went from 17.2 MPG to 19.5 MPG, while pulling the same trailor loaded with wood. I cut my own wood then stack it in my trailor to sell. I have Good Year Wranglers size: P235/75R/15 I just replace these with new ones. The old ones are going on my trailor. Counted milage on tires are 65000 Miles. Tires were rated at 40000 miles, Under normal use.

I have a 1996 2500 diesel 6.5 it has started stalling always restarts and has not shown any engine lite where to start?

I would still scan the computer for any intermittent codes. If there aren't any, then I would try to determine if the correct seasonal fuel is being used in the diesel engine. I would also check for correct fuel delivery to the cylinders through the fuel injectors.

When accerating as I'm going up a hill, I hear a rattling noise and whisteling. I've had the car for two months and it just started today. I have a 1996 Honda Accord LX, I bought the car used.

If the car is well past 90,000 miles (144,000 km) you may have a worn timing belt. Clattering sounds are a warning sound that the timing belt is not controlling piston and valve movement correctly. Carbon build-up may be contributing to your symptoms, but the timing belt needs replacing urgently if it has not been replaced already in the lifetime of the car. Timing belt breakage results in serious damage to the engine. Repairing the damage usually means an expensive engine overhaul or engine replacement.
