The symptoms that you mentioned are highly suggestive of blown / leaking head gasket.White smoke is a result of overflow coolant. You need to replace head gasket.

As of now, i do not have the complete instructions.I am still trying to get it for you. or you could download the service manual from :-

This is at highly discounted price as it is uploaded by users. You could get a service manual for around 11 bucks whereas other sites would charge you more than $50 for the same manual.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Excessive exhaust smoke on the first start of the day

Sounds like the valve guides are leaking oil into the cylinders, or there is a coolant leak somewhere. Usually white smoke is coolant but could be oil.
Are you adding either fluid often ?

the pop you heard was likely a hose burst. dont go by what water is in your overflow tank. need to check coolant at the radiator cap but only when its stone cold.

White smoke is coolant leaking through the engine gaskets most likely. The turbo would leak oil which would be black. If the turbo has intercool to it then it can be coolant as well

I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe that was running through coolant very quickly. I took it in to a nation wide change to run a coolant system check - they could not find anything wrong except a hose clamp. ...

I would think your thermostat is sticking, and the gasket around the thermostat is leaking. Replace both, and you should be okay. Better check to see if your cooling fan is cutting in too.
