In the absence of a person with a great deal of knowledge you will need part numbers...

The manufacturer part numbers and a helpful dealer will be able to tell you if any other cars in the franchise have used those parts.

Such parts are often bought in by the vehicle manufacturer from a specialist company and if so your parts will be marked with the name and part number of that manufacturer who will also be able to tell you what other cars of any make have used those parts via the buyer's guide in their catalogue.

Aftermarket suppliers also use catalogues with part number cross references and a buyer's guide section. If the parts are available for your car from an aftermarket supplier the numbers will also appear in the other sections of the catalogue.

Volvo s40 clutch

There is the possibility that the "disc part" of the clutch assembly was defective. Two of them being defective is a very small possibility. Does anyone else operate the vehicle besides yourself?. The clutch disc is a very heavy duty part. Quality parts are also an issue. The clutch needs to be from a quality supplier such as Volvo...or a good clutch manufacturer...Sachs...Luk...Etc. The clutch the garage put in may have been an aftermarket part from a vendor that has very low quality control. Shredding the disc requires abuse or a defect in the manufacturing process. Heat from abuse is usually what causes the ultimate failure of a clutch disc, especially shredding of the surface. Insure the garage is checking the straightness of the input shaft on the transmission. This shaft "carries" the disc and allows it to transmit the power from the engine to the transmission. If this shaft is bent...the disc will be allowed to move up and down while it is rotating...which would exacerbate the wear and allow premature failure. The flywheel surface which is in contact with the disc should have been machined to a very smooth finish to insure proper wear characteristics of the disc. If it was not machined it should have been replaced.
I certainly hope this information has brought a few things to light for you and your issue.

My 1999 xc v70 awd volvo wagon has a rear brake getting hot

the first thing you want to check is whether or not it has a heavy drag at the wheel caused by wrong pads, sticking caliper, improperly installed parts. Lift the car and try to turn the wheel. Just because they are certified does not mean they know everything. I'm certified too, but I also have experience with euros and the quality of parts that need to be used. If inferior quality parts are used it will cause this. It can create all kinds of problems and noises. Take it back until they get it right. Ask them what brand of parts they use. Let me know and if they give you any grief, contact me and I will advise accordingly.

I am living in The Republic of Palau and I have a 1993 940 SE volvo that I bought in Japan, but was manufactured in Sweden. Where would be the best place for me to get parts? The stearing wheel is on the...

Use the tool you already have--the computer, and do a search for sources of parts in countries that use right hand drive. Have you contacted the factory itself for a list of parts suppliers near you? The steering wheel position would only be important if you need certain suspension and steering components. Good luck!

Volvo S90 1998, trying to find service/repair manual.

Here's the answer. Contact a Carquest Auto Parts store(worked there 13 years). They have a division known as WorldPac. They can get you what you need. It will be the best repair manual you could have. It will be a little higher than Chilton, but it will be worth it. And Worldpac can get you any part for your car and they're all OEM parts at 1/2-2/3 cheaper than the dealer, and they're Volvo parts. I'd go with them. Good Luck.
