The problem could be in the ignition switch itself.

The heat in our 2003 Chevy Malibu will only work on the two highest settings. Is there anything we can do to fix it ourselves?

first of all remove trim under glovebox. then loosen and slid the pcm out of the way. you will then see the fan and resistor, resistor is beside fan motor. remove resistor and if need be replace it. if resistor is bad then you will not get all fan speeds. there is a coil for each speed. good luck carl,

2003 malibu blower fan just works on 4&5 how do you replace resistor

the resistor is just below glove box. remove panal under glovebox, move pcm to one side to get access to heater fan and resistor. resistor is right beside fan motor, disconnect connection to resistor, remove screws holding it in. pull straight out to remove.

2003 malibu cooling fans don't work. I have replace the relay and the temp sensor and still nothing. When ever I disconnect the temp sensor the fans come on and work normally, but later in the day I see...

okay pull the temp sensor connector ( disconnect it) and turn car on if the fans run then its the temp sensor.... part # wt3000.
Theres also 3 relays that turn the fans on in the fuse box cooling mode fan relay @15 which is part number 7234. and cooling one # 1 which is 3604, and cooling fan #2 which is 7236.
I have the same car...give me a fan clutch cooling system anyway of the week. simple and efective no problems.
