Question about 1996 Nissan Pickup

I have a 96 Nissan pick-up with very little clutch pedal problem started about 2 weeks ago now its to the point where it won't shift into gear. I had everthing replaced about 1 1/2 years ago clutch pressure plate throw out bearing and slave cylinder

clutch pedals are suposed to go all the way to the floor , you sure you dont mean brake pedal (cus thats bad ! ) clutches should travel all the way to floor and release the "grab" of the engine about 2/3 down , this way they are more smoothly allowing shifting thru the gears and not jerking as you shift thru the gears , if clutch pedal does not start to "grab" the engines power by 2/3 off the floor and fully "grab"its power all the way up(slipping) ,and you have a hydraulic clutch (96's do) then the clutch disk may require replacement or there is a oil leak in the clutch/master/slave cylinder , look for small oil leaks from under car in area of foot pedals
clutches should be replaced as an assembly that includes , disk ,pressure plate, throwout bearing , with engine side clutch plate magnafluxed for heat cracks and any hydraulic oil leaks replaced or repaired

Find a local trusted transmission repair shop, they will do a preliminary diagnosis in most cases for little or no cost if you give them the job of repairing the transmission, which I think needs to be overhauled judging by the symptoms it is presenting.

I bought a 1995 Nissan 240sx s14 a month ago.(146K milage). It has a manual transmission. It didnt have any problems when i bought it. But right now when i try to up-shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear or 2nd...


The vehicle appears to be suffering from "Clutch Drag". This is often caused by insufficient disengagement of the clutch pack components. On the Manual transmission I would expect 1/4 to 3/8 inches of "Free Play" at the clutch pedal. The distance between the rest position, and when depressed the point of first resistance. Anything in excess of this, requires adjustment to the Pedal stroke linkage, to obtain that measurement.
If this cannot be achieved then, the only alternative is to replace the Clutch Pack and Flywheel Pilot Bearing. At the same time. As the vehicle has covered 140k miles, without positive service records, a Transmission OIl change would be in order too.

Gear shift seizing


I would suggest that your Clutch Pack is in a progressive stage of Failure. These indicators are outlined in your symptoms.
As you will appreciate, each application of the Clutch pedal allows the Clutch Plate [Spinner]to Disengage and Rengage on shift completion, but in a different place on the Flywheel and Clutch Pressure Plate, after each shift, Up or Down the Gears.
This I conclude is why you are getting varying responses, during your driving cycles.

that cable fited one side to cluch pedel and ather side fited gear box side where palte which is relecing clutch bearing. dont forget to adjust.

Clutch Problems


Poss. wrong fluid in trans. It takes 75W-90. Is your clutch master cylinder full?? if not you have a leak. Replace the master cylinder and slave cylinder on trans. Look at the master cylinder boot to see if its wet/inside the car by the clutch pedal. Fluid normally leaks into the boot

Could be the clutch is wearing down.If it's in ALL gears,it is likely the clutch.If i remember correctly,your car has a hydraulically activated clutch.If this is the case,under the dash,where the clutch pedal attaches to the clutch master cylinder,there is a jam nut,either 12mm or 14 mm wrench,loosen the jamnut,and spin the threded rod in,towards the clutch pedal,and away from the firewall.This should make your clutch pedal engagement point closer to the floor,and easier to shift.
