    Hi,

I drove for some time now, and problem keeps popping. As a matter of fact, now its happening almost anytime i drive.
The power steering fluid is in constant level - max - since i filled it (once).

I checked for the recall - none for this vehicle

    Tomer..

    Hi,

    Thanks for your comment.
Are you 100% sure this is what's causing the fault?
I went to the garage (BMW certified) several times, and one time even with the fault on, but they could not trace what's wrong. They eventually told me the transmission has to be inspected, which didn't make that much sense to me, since they didn't seem to base this analysis on anything concrete, so i started investigating on the web and saw there might be other reasons to the fault.
So question is, what do I do next? Should i go to the shop and tell them to check the items you mentioned hoping they would see something faulty there?

I will post items for do it yourself level only.

On level ground,check/fill power steering fluid.
(DO NOT OVERFILL)
The steering angle sensor and steering assist system is feeding out of range data (wrong data) to the transmission computer.

After filling the power steering reservoir, clean the steering rack area with Simple Green or Castrol de-greaser follow by water.

The optical sending unit can be dirty. A quick de-greasing in the steering rack area will clean out any dust and dirt.

(if your are not comfortable cleaning the steering rack yourself then you can count on a good car wash the do full under-car chassis wash)

There are two recalls from BMW NA.

Check your service record first for pass service done on your 645.

Have your VIN number handy and call BMW toll free number 1-800-831-1117 to verify are these recalls apply to your 645.

    Hi,

I've tried what you suggested, I checked the power steering fluid level, and it was indeed a bit lower than the minimum. I've bought the appropriate fluid a per the manual, and added it.

After doing that, the problem still did not go away, and I got the same Transmission Fault message again after a few days.

    Tomer.

If the fluid is very low,It will take few minutes or hours to work the air pocket(s) out of the power steering system.

Take it for a drive and keep the steering fluid top off.

Did you call BMW toll free number 1-800-831-1117 and tell the your VIN number?

For security reason, please do not post your vin number on the web.

Just give BMW a call and check are the two recalls apply to your 645.

It's good to keep the information on the service record folder.

Please keep me posted on the power steering fluid level and the info from BMW.

The steering angle sensor and steering assist system are defective.

Damage is done. It's time for a shop to replace these two items.

Please make sure the shop replace both items at the same visit.

Dealer level scanner is needed to scan all factory codes and re-flash the computer.

Dealers are taking back the service business.

On my 1st post to you I stated,I can only give you DIY level check list only.

The next realistic step is to monitor for any fluid leak.

    front seal
leak between engine and transmission (oil or trans. fluid)
    rear output shaft

An electronic control transmission will look for data input from steering.

A transmission shop or BMW dealer will has the factory $10K to guide you to the fix.

An off the shelf $2000 tool will not be a good investment for a DIY'er.

Please post the dealer or trans shop findings.

Hi normally most E39/E60 BMW electronic gearboxes have a safety lock connected to foot brake which restricts gear selection unless driver apply;s foot brake.this could be a possible fault ,gear linkage have come loose, otherwise internal gearbox fault ,this will require a full diagnostic fault code report to determine that faults are permanent or intermittent . low transmission oil level can cause this problem.

What are the recals on 2006 750li

Hi, I purchased a 2006, BMW 750li 7 months ago..this car has 71,000 miles and I hardly drove it since buying it.However, I noticed that fluids was leaking and to my a long story short, I took it the the BMW dealership-they changed the oil pan, but the reason for going was because it started showing transmission fault, and when I put the gear in drive it jumps back to park-on top of a very hard jerk when I put into drive to drive off. I ask the dealer to re set the fault control, but the car is doing the same thing..anyone has a solution to this problem? The said I need a transmission, and it will cost $7,700.00

Whilst driving, my E280 gear box moved into neutral for about a second or two, and it shifted into the next gear with a strong sudden ****.

seems like faulty transmission, the reason is when you drive the car gears are up shift form 1 to 2 , 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 5, like that it should be 7 speed auto trans mission in your car, if you mention when which gear up shift the problem occurred I can give more information about what's the fault in transmission, so according to your details it's like two gears are engage together, when two gears are engage same time the transmission control unit understand it's something getting wrong in the transmission according to actual value of gear ratio, then trans mission change the gear to neutral for a second and after that it give the one lower gear than the gear which was stuck and drive fine, this thing might not happen all the time but is the problem verse it can happen all the time, the solution is you must get your car to the Mercedes dealer workshop then they can find what's the wrong inside the transmission before remove it, they have advance diagnose tool for it, then they will repair your transmission, this is the cheapest way, if some one repair your transmission without right understanding regarding what's the exactly fault you will be stuck, may have to be remove again and again,

It is a transmission related problem. It could be electrical, transmission or... nothing. The trans prog message cause the E34 to run in 3rd gear only, that is the reason wht you feel the car has no power. Check:
1) Turn the car off and wait 10min - 2) Main power relay, power to trans control module - 3) Gear selection switch - 4) Program switch (Manual or Auto) - 5) Computer box - 6) At last, the transmission.
