Use your spare key and try to start the truck.
The worn / original key has a BLACK RESISTOR on the side.
GM PassKey is not a well design product.
It was made to keep the insure rate down for GM car buyer.
The chance are this BLACK RESISTOR got knock out,missing or the contacts to this resistor is very dirty/WORN.
Give the steering column and the contact points a good cleaning.
Example: pass a vacuum hose over the key hole for few minutes and wipe down with DRY cotton cloth.
