It sounds like you may have bad shock absorbers. It could also be the anti-sway bars are worn out, or broken. These are 2 components that could cause the problem you're having. Take it to a repair center, & have it put on a lift to see the full view of the undercarriage. That will let you see all the components at the same time.

Riding rough sounds like shocks.. but I dont think gran am has shocks.. could it be the moter mount that would make it ride rough and when you turn the stering wheel back and forth while driving it sways.

All cars have shocks and/or struts. Grand am has front struts and either rear struts or shocks. When these are worn, the ride would be rough. If a motor mount was bad, you may feel rocking or visually see the motor wiggle back and forth when you press and release the accelerator pedal. Motor mounts won't affect handling. Either shocks/struts, sway bar, stabalizer bar or links are the common cause

Have a 1996 explorer sport with 200k. Daughter said the truck started to drive "like a boat tossing and turning" at highway speed. Front end was rebuilt not long ago. shocks seems fine and...

Yes this sounds like A sway bar condition and yes you can Replace just the links and bushings. I would not replace the sway bar its self unless that is infact what broke. I hope this helps you out. i would appreciate it if you would rate me.
thank you

I need to know the name of the two short bars on the back side of the axel that keeps the van from swaying back and forth

sway bar links or stabilizer links? One end is attached to the stabilizer bar and the other end is attached to the strut I believe.

Instructions for replacing sway bar on chevy venture

Not that hard using 13mm socket and wrench remove the 2 outer end links at the lower control arms. Then the covers and isolators on the subframe remove front sway bar.Now would be a good time to replace end links because bolts rust and get thin inside metal spacer.

My explorer's cab rocks back and forth

If you cab is rocking and/or swaying from slightly rough terrain, then it is time to service your shocks and springs. Over time both shocks and springs weaken, causing the vehicles own weight to compress them.
