My toyota camry 1994 the CAa said that need to check the alternator because one when i start my car it wont start and they said my batterry charging is not good? is it true?

You do not state whether the starter actually cranks the engine or not. If it does so strongly, but the engine won't fire, then this stuff below doesn't apply.

There are several other things which may be the cause. Alternators are usually quite reliable, so check the alternator drive belt first to see it is not loose or broken. Is your charging warning light on the dash lit up? That should come on if the alternator is not charging.

The failure to start could also be either an old battery that will no longer hold a charge, or, the battery is OK but yes, the alternator is not charging it properly, or, the starter motor has a fault, or, in an auto, the start switch on the transmission has failed.

There is a test, but it needs the engine to be running. If you can get it started somehow, turn the headlights on high beam, have someone watch them, and rev the engine moderately.

If the headlights look dim at idle, and flare up brightly when the engine is revved, the battery is weak and the alternator is OK.

If they are dim all the time, it is probably the alternator at fault, or, the alternator drive belt is loose or broken.

If the lights are bright all the time when doing this test, it is probably the starter motor solenoid contacts. These do wear out in a Camry, and can fail only sometimes when worn down.

Only starts occaisionally, power is to the solinoid, but the starter circuit doesn't energize. checked ignition and it seems to be oK

Connect an extra wire to the starter input of the starter motor. Connect a voltmeter to it and turn the ignition. If there's no voltage there or the voltage drops far below acceptable levels check the original wire. Alternatively use the new lead to start the engine.

When my truck gets hot it doesn't want to start. Sometimes if you wiggle the key it will start, but when it doesn't start, it makes a clicking noise.

the clicking noise is most likely coming from the solenoid on the starter motor, the solenoid is like a big switch with contacts inside of it,when you turn the key to start the engine these contacts come together to transfer the power to the starter motor,if the solenoid can't be taken apart & the contacts cleaned or replaced it will have to be replaced.......hope this helps....cheers

Car will not start, just makes a whirring noise when I try to start it,the check engine light comes on.

There is most likely a problem with your starter -- if it is not grabbing the engine to turn it over when you turn the key, the starter motor will spin (giving you the whirring noise) but the engine will not move. First things first ... have someone turn the key, and hit your starter with a stick or something ... sometimes this will free up whatever part is not working proper5ly, and you won't have to replace your whole starter. If hitting your starter doesn't work ... and if you are good with cars, try replacing the starter and see if that helps.
Hopefully those will help ... if not, you will probably have to take the car to a mechanic to get it fixed, as there are several other parts that could be causing the issue -- but they are hard to get to and require some experience to know what you are looking for.

What is a v tec solenoid

Hi ,V TEC is a motor type used in Honda model cars, the solenoid is on the side of your starter motor and it causes the start gear to push out and line up to the main flywheel to turn your engine over ,the solenoid can sometimes repeatedly "click" when it malfunctions ,this can be very intermittant and embarrassing to say the least. when it starts doing this i strongly suggest you simply get the model engine it has (from the ID plate under the bonnet ) and phone your closest Honda car dismantler or wrecker or junkyard and ask them for a replacement starter motor, they dont sell solenoids seperately unless you buy brand new which may be an extreme price.the second hand starter motor will usually come with a 3 month warranty and are not too expensive.Have it fitted by an auto electrician or a good mechanic and you'll be fine .THANK YOU for using FixYa
