On volkswagens and BMWs if you replaced the pads you need to insure you put the sensor back in correctly? It is easy to not get it in correctly or to damage the sensor when replacing the pads. I would replace the sensor as this is the case about 95% of the time. The sensor should be about $30 but depends where in the country you are.

Check break system chime and alarm display?

I would look on an official site that will tell you what and why about all those fun little warning lights. Sometimes, the same light comes on for different reasons. I've had to do that myself. The only other thing I can think it might be is that you might need to reset it. My Buick Century has the same problem. Look in your owners manual. It should tell you what you need to do. I hope this helps!

Reset brake warning light

Depending on the make model and year, the warning light may be for low brake fluid or the parking brake being engaged.

Audi a6 quattro brake warning

This is my take on the problem. The factory setting for the brake travel at the caliper is what triggers the warning, just because there is pad left (not to thr rivets) does not mean the pads are ok .
I would try backing the travel on the caliper to the far open pisition then reset the computer start the car do not touch the brake pedel
the light should be out. if this works replace the pads.

Peugeot 405 SRi: brake pad warning light came on; pads replaced; warning light stays on. Any idea how to reset? CHeers, Chris

Hi Chris
Is there plenty of fluid for the nrakes? they should have little wires coming from the brake pads , normally once you have replaced the pads this light would go out automatically.

It may not be your pads that triggered the light.

Hope this helps

1998 ford escort the brake light stays on after engine is turned off.

Is there any brake fluid leaks anywhere?
Check your Brake Fluid Level in your Master Cylinder Reservoir. If it is too low, this will trigger the Brake Light. This is the number 1 reason for the warning light to trigger.
Also: there is an electrical connection adjacent to the Reservoir. Check this connection. Unplug, check the metal connectors (both) for any corrosion or oxidation (whiting) and remove this from the metal. Replug and recheck operation.
Further: what is the condition of your Brake Pads and/or Brake Shoes? Pads or Shoes that are worn out (very low) will trigger this.
Let me know if this helped, or if you have any additional infomation, problems or questions. Feel free to contact me at!

Brake pad warning light on golf gti 1.8t 1999 t reg

Brake wear indicator and low brake fluid warning indication are two different circuits.

They are not related.

Easy route to check brake pads is the measure the gab between the rotor and the metal portion of the brake pad.

If it's low then replace it.

The right way is to pull the tires and measure the thickness of the remaining brake pad.

Most shop give free brake inspection with oil change,

Check it out before the pad cuts into the rotor and it will DOUBLE the cost of your brake job.

I replaced the front pads on a VW JETTA 2.5 and the check pads light is on. How can I reset the check pads light?

As the brake pads wear, the brake pad wear sensor contained in the brake pad contacts the brake rotor. This causes the sensor to fail. When a pad wear sensor fails it opens the ground circuit of the pad wear warning light system causing the pad wear warning light to illuminate. Perform normal brake service to correct this condition and be sure to replace the brake pads with pads containing wear sensors. Once the brake pads and wear sensors are replaced, reset the brake pad warning system by turning the ignition switch to the "on" position. As long as continuity to ground exists through all the brake pad wear sensors the system should reset and the pad warning light in the dash will go out. If the pad warning light does not go out, a check of the pad warning circuit for an open circuit condition or poor ground must be performed.
