    Thanks for your response!!

I would be glad to work on this with you till the issue would be resolved. Before i start, let me ask few details :-

    1. Have you Inspected and Tested Battery? ( You mentioned it, but wanted to re confirm )
    2. Have you checked the starter motor?
    3. Have you checked Ignition Switch?

These are the basic 3 things that would cause the car not to CRANK. After this, we would move on to few more steps like Alternator or Vehicle security system or even ECM.

    Let me know,once done.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

luckily i broke down at a gas station that was next to a firestone. the manager from firestone came over and had jumper cables and a portable battery. he said that he would get the electrical system checked and then put the cables on . the first time i tried to start the car it didnt. he said to wait a minute and then it started. i came home and left the car running. i told my husband the story and he got mad and shut the car off and now it won't start. i'm trying to figure out what to do. im sorry im not entirely helpful here. i know very little about cars.

    Thanks for your response!!

I understand your concern. However, i could only guide you. I do not want you to buy an alternator and later on, it would be a starter motor. These are the basics which have to be diagnosed as there could be many reasons for the same.

I would be glad to write the instructions or post videos ( could try ) of the same. However, these needs to be inspected before you jump on alternator. As i cannot inspect your car, i am bound to write all the steps from start.

    Let me know,once done.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Trying to replace alternator on SUZUKI XL7

yes use a small socket wrench as in a 1/4 in drive i had the same problem with my echoe not a lot of room to undo bolt with a bigger ratchet...As for the belt if serpitine you need to remember how to put the belt back in there should be a tensioner pulley that you need to move to remove and replace belts however swinging alternator out of way or removing same will allow some belts to be removed if only 1
