1992 mercury grand marquis is over heating, whats the problem

There are many things that can cause your engine to overheat. It could be caused by a bad thermostat, a faulty fan clutch, a defective electric fan motor (if your vehicle is equipped with one), torn/broken hoses, or a bad water pump. It could also be something much more serious like a blown head gasket, intake manifold gasket, or a cracked cylinder head or engine block. It could also be something as simple and easy as an inaccurate temperature sending unit making you "think" the engine is overheating when it actually is not.

In any event, proper diagnostics need to be performed immediately. An overheating engine is nothing to mess around with unless you are very wealthy and can afford to replace an entire engine.

1999 mercury grand marquis occasionally overheats, leaks around radiator cap, makes gurgling noise on passenger side. Have replaced heater core, water pump, thermostat, hoses,& radiator cap.

Check the antifreeze for oil, pull your dipstick out, see if antifreeze is in oil or smells sweet or over full, sounds like you may of a bad head gasket. You can also check this by having a compression test done on the cylinders.

How to flush and change the antifreeze on a 2001 mercury grand marquis

loosen pressure cap slowly at coolant tank to relieve pressure, when pressure is relieved remove cap, place a suitable container under drain valve at bottom of radiator open drain valve.when coolant has stopped draining, close valve.then remove thermostat,[this is a good time to replace t.stat since it must be removed to refill cooling system],disconnect heater core coolant supply hose at rear of intake manifold.add coolant thru t.stat opening until coolant comes out of coolant supply hose fitting, reinstall hose and tighten[not to tight] reinstall thermostat o ring and thermostat.add coolant to tank until the coolant level is between the COOLANT FILL LEVEL the maximum heater temperature and blower speed settings run engine until it reaches operating temp.add coolant until the coolant level is between the COOLANT FILL LEVEL marks.turn off engine allow it to cool, recheck coolant level, add as needed .ford requires this procedure to avoid engine damage due to trapped air.

2005 MGM - Need to change coolant

There is only one drain point. Drain the coolant from the system at the radiator. This will remove coolant from the engine. Be sure and have the heater set to hot. Flush the system with a water hose. Fill the system with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water. Do not use tap water. Start the engine with the radiator cap off and keep adding coolant until it will take no more and you see no more air bubbles escaping from the radiator. If there are schrader bleed valves on the engine cooling system use them to remove any more trapped air. Put the cap on and start the engine and let it run for 15 minutes while you check for leaks. I would replace the thermostat at this time as it is just good preventive maintenance.

How to flush the anti-freeze in1997 gran marquis

remove bottom and top caps from radiator, turn car on, place water hose in radiator, turn water on slow, let run for a while, making sure water is constantly coming out of the bottom of the radiator. keep an eye on hose to ensure water is not coming out too fast and that the hose does not come out of the radiator. watch color of water at the bottom, wait till it is totally clear before taking the hose out and shutting off the car. make sure you turn car off the allow all the water to come out. replace bottom cap, then fill with 50/50 fluid to proper level and fill side container to proper level as well
