Question about 2000 Pontiac Montana
Check the main fuse box under the hood on the passenger side. Fuse# 4. It's a 15 amp fuse. Pull it out to see if it is blown. This fuse also controls your "small lights" (see manual). If your small lights on your dash are working then this may not be the problem.

The circuit board witch holds the tail light bulbs could be at fault,check the voltage to the tail lights when this happens,if there is none,replace the headlight switch.If there is voltage to the tail lights,replace the tail light assembelys
