Question about Honda Odyssey

2 Answers

I have a 2002 Honda Odyssey and I want to hook up my trailer lights. My trailer has combined directional and brake lights whereas the Honda has separate directional and brake lights. How do I connect the trailer wiring to the Honda so that I have both directional and brake lights? Please advise. Thanks Ross

i didn't get an answer to my question. My trailer has a four wire harness with a flat connector. My question is how do I wire up the van whic has separate brake and directional lights/wires to connect correctly to the trailer. The van has no trailer wiring at present.

It doesn't matter how the trailer is wired. The connector on the trailer takes care of that. If you have the correct car side connector then just connect it in correctly and let the connectors take care of the rest. Almost any auto parts store carries the connector half you need and the packaging usually has installation instructions included.

The brakes and tail lamps will be wired together on the trailer harness

Do you mean I should connect the trailer light wire to both the directional and brake light wires in the van? That would effectively tie both the directional and tail lights together in the van which would have both lights come on at the same time whenever either the brake or directional signal were on.

The brake light can be connected to the left & right directional on the trailers circuit. The directional wires must be done separate as left & right to the trailers circuit

What weight can my 1995 Honda Odyssey tow with an un-braked trailer?

According to NRMA Car Review - Honda Odyssey 1995
1200 kg
You would probably want to put a transmission cooler in to tow that sort of load though.

Headlights work but all front and rear running lights do not work. Trailer hitch with trailer brake light wire was recently installed.

Take it back. Sounds like they didn't wire the converter correctly. Check fuses also. Also try http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx. They have a great website with lots of info.

Trailer break lights and running lights don't work

i would use a multimeter to read each wires operation voltage before hooking up. ex. turn on turn signal, connect meter to find which wires is pulsing.

So your saying you wired the trailer yourself? yes you need the wires to both sides for brake and running. the runners have to be all connected, and the brake all connected, hot and neutral.
