How to change the mode door on a 96 cadillac

The climate control keeps coming on by itself. When I turn it off, the climate control characters turn into dashes. Eventually the whole dash, except the speedometer, turns into dashes. I get the following codes on the CCU, PC11353, PZ2255. I called a tech at the local dealer, he said that it sounded like the "Mode Door". Does that sound right? If so how do I change/fix it? If not what might it be?

In my book I see instructions for replacing the "Climate Control Assembly", is that what you are referring to? If so, it says that it is incorporated in the instrument cluster. Will I have to change the whole instrument cluster (dash?)?

This sounds like a bad control. this is common on the caddy, this uses the digital contorl , replace the control and that should solve that problem.

Testimonial: "This helps, but I need more info:In my book it has instructions for replacing the "Climate Control Assmebly". Is this what you are referring to? The book says that it is incorporated into the Instrument Cluster. Am I looking at the right thing? Do I need to replace the whole Instrument Cluster?"

My 96 Sedan DeVille Climate control system will not toggle between Econ and Auto Modes. It will only operate in the Econ Mode. The Auto Mode lights up when I push the button but immiediately switches...

This usually means the ac refridgerant is low. In Econ mode the ac compressor will not turn on, your car is staying in Econ to avoid damage to the compressor. If you are low on refrigerant it means you have a leak. Don't just buy a can and refil, have a professional shop check for leaks and fill the system with the proper oil and add refrigerant to the proper pressure.

I have a 1996 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. This spring...

If the a/c does not engage as a result of the electronic control system in your 1996 Cadillac, the climate control system may need to be replaced.

However, if the problem is being caused by low charge of R134a in the system, have the system charged before changing that electronic part.

I have never seen a Cadillac Climate Control System do this, which leads me to believe that it may be more electronic than refrigerant pressure related.

If the refrigerant pressure was low in the system, the climate control system should still stay on 'auto' mode, I think, and simply blow warm air.

'96 cadillac deville has no air.cond./heat

Unfortunately for you ( i had the same problem) The A/C compressor HAS to be in working order on these cars or else all heck breaks out with the climate control.

If it's a nice car, get a new compressor installed. If it's borderline- get rid of the car.

I paid 2200 to Cadillac to fix the A/C and climate control only to have the transmission fail in my '93.

I dumped the car soon thereafter....

Air won't come out of vents, but will from defrost and floor.

if it switches function even only a few then the problem is not the vacuum source (if u had no vacuum it would default to defrost mode) the problem is the dash control head vacuum mode control switch, i don't think u can just replace the switch, u have to buy the whole climate control module.

Max air button does not respond

"MAX" ONLY puts the climate control in the RECIRC mode. Door modes change to " RECIRCULATE" interior cabin air back to be RE-COOLED, instead of using HOT OUTSIDE air to cool. If the problem is in the panel, complete replacement is required. Hope this helps

The car keeps coming up a code 23 on a 1999 chrysler 300 for the

Code 23= Blend door feedback control

On cars with automatic climate control: To enter diagnostic mode, set the temperature to 75F, press the the off button. Press Floor, Defrost\Floor, Front Defrost simutaneously for 3 seconds until the temperature display begins to flash.
On cars without automatic climate control, set the blower to any speed, turn the temperature control in between warm and cold. Press Floor, Defrost\Floor, and Front Defrost. All codes will flash via the Front Defrost button.
When the test is over all fault codes will be displayed (on cars without automatic climate control, they will be blinked out on the Front Defrost button).

Climate Control System Problem

The noise is most likely coming from a sticky temperature control blend door, ( they warp from heat, not an un-common issue) it is moved with a electric actuator. This is very expensive to fix, requires removal of the dash to repair, if the system works ok then if it was me I would "live with it".
