I have the same problem on my 06 1.4 megane, it is the neutral cable that has snapped, one nearest the passenger side. I have been told you must remove all centre console (4 spline key bolts and lots of plastic) remove the 4 bolts securing gear shaft and selector, then fron underneath the car, remove front part of exhaust followed by heat shield, then remove gear selector cables and withdraw selector mechanism, then replace cable and refit. I will be attempting this next week and will post any problems on here.

Hi, i have now removed the gear shaft from vehicle, i was able to do this by jacking car up by about 1 and a half feet, getting onderneath and not removing heat shield completely but bending it slightly, the gear selector cables fix to gearbox housing with plastic clips, if you feel behind these clips there is a small plastic stick about the thickness of a lolipop stick, this is spring loaded and can be pulled back easily and plastic clip on gearbox housing can be lifted up and removed, the gear shaft comes out if you remove middle and rear exhaust bracket securing bolts and allow exhaust to rest on rear axle, then push exhaust to left side of vehicle allows just enough room to remove gear shaft mechanism (after you have removed 4 securing bolts from inside vehicle, and centre console obviously and released 4 small plastic lugs holding housing in) i had to cut some small cuts in carpet to allow access to these 4 bolts, if not you will need to remove front seats and carpet/sound deadening pad etc.

Hope this helps any questions p_devlin79@yahoo.com

Zigzag light on megane scenic dashboard comes on car revs high then low usually stalls then coming to a stop. 1998 renault megane scenic rt manual. thanks

this exact problem on a megane coupe is caused by a small air pipe that connects to a 2 inch wide black box that is located under the bonnet near the windscreen on the passangers side. the zigzag light indicates an electrical fault (in this case lack of compression and will affect your revs) if you find this pipe and it has snapped off. the reason for this may be that your engien is lose and moves. grab the engien with 2 hands and see if you can wobble it with allot of play. if so your engien mountings need replaceing. you may also experiance juddering in low gears

Renault megane engine light flashing and car is juddering.

I have 2 meganes im working on at the moment both have the same problem. the electrical falt light is on coz the pipe has snapped (or come off) under the bonnet on the passangers side close to the window (theres a black box about 2 inch wide the pipe connects underneath). if I reconect the pipe and grab the engien with both hands it wobbles and the pipe pulls off. I suspect this is coz one (or all) the engien mountings are shagged. and this will be the cause of the juddering when driveing in first and second gears. solutions iv have come across for juddering involve changeing the coil pack but thats nothing to do with the problem my 2 cars have as one of them has new coils. they are 1.6 petrol, p reg and s reg

My 2002 renault megane 1.4 fidji, the gearstick is very loose, hard to find the gears, goes into gear ok,once under the car,you can move the gear stick underneith easy?

selector rods near the diff are worn, or some boxes have the arm on the bottom, there is a plastic bush that takes the play out, its worn up.

renault gearbox are known to give problems.the clunk you hear might not be in the gearbox sounds more like gearbox mounting i would get it checked first however the whine in fith gear is a differant problem yes i am inclined to agree with you on this one.sorry but it looks like a replacement gearbox is going to be the only answer good luck.adrian

Renault megan 1998 diffucult to get into 1 st gear

Hi, My postmans Megane has the same grief, I tried changing the power steering fluid but made it worse, looks like the pump itself.
If your clutch is heavy to then the cable is possibly stretched and needs replacing.
Oh Make sure there aren't any carpets under the clutch stopping the full travel of your pedal.
Good Luck.

Gearbox fix

u will find it hard to buy a used auto box to fit this car, and remember u will have to change the gearbox mounts fit a different pedal box and modify where the gear selector mounts for a manual gearbox conversion. to much hassle for such little gain better off buying another car
