Question about Jaguar Xj Series

1 Answer

Intermittant performance restricted light comes on . Which does limit the performance. Howeverafter stopping and switching the engine off it clears and doesnt reappear for a few hundered miles. Have been into main jaguar dealership and they thought that it could be a turbo blower fault but on checking these were allright and they eventually diagnosed a leaking port deactivating valve which they changed. cleared the fault code and then tested. However I have had the trouble to reappear. Can you help please as the wife is now scared to drive the car as it happened to her on a motor way with a lorry right behind her. The car is 2006 2.7 twin turbo xj sports CE56GCF thanks mike

Well, I looked up the 2006 Jaguar twin turbo xj sports CE56GCF
and the data I have at my disposal is very sparse.

I think that you should take the vehicle back to the dealer and have them see if the leaking port deactivating valve has gone bad again.

It might still be under warranty.

I checked the recalls, and didn't find a reference to this problem.

But anything is possible.

I wish you luck in repairing this problem.

What will it take to correct? trouble shooting p1574 code shown on a 2006 HHR

DTC P1574 Stoplamp Switch Circuit
The cruise release switch is a normally closed switch. The stop lamp switch signal circuit is a normally open switch. When the brake pedal is released, the engine control module (ECM) detects a high voltage signal on the torque converter clutch (TCC) brake switch/cruise control release signal circuit and a low signal voltage signal on the stop lamp switch signal circuit.

Diagnostic Aids
In order to avoid a misdiagnosis, perform the following:
• Inspect for proper operation of the stop lamps. Refer to Exterior Lighting Systems Description and Operation .
• Inspect for proper adjustment of the stop lamps. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment .
• For an intermittent condition, refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .

2
Do the stop lamps work properly?
YES - Go to Step 3
NO - Go to Stop Lamps Inoperative
3
Test the stop lamp switch signal circuit for an open or for a high resistance between the body control module (BCM) and the engine control module (ECM). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?
YES - Go to Step 6
NO - Go to Step 4
4
Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the ECM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?
YES -- Go to Step 6
NO - Go to Step 5
5
Replace the ECM. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming.
Did you complete the replacement?
YES - Go to Step 6
--
6
Use a scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC.
Does the DTC reset?
Go to Step 2
System OK

Can't retrieve codes through dash an cruise control. Also cruise set resume switch does not seem to work.

It seems the pcm is detected a fault with the engine. Even if the problem goes away , the vehicle will have to go three drive cycles without engine faults before the cruise control use will be allowed by pcm.

My 2001 525td starts and drives ok but intermittently it wont go above 3000 rpm,if you stop and switch it off it goes ok again for a short while

HI, your car is most likely going into limp mode. The number one cause of this computer shut down restriction- is a Mass-Air Flow sensor malfunction. Fuel trims become erratic and the engine computer puts a order in to limit performance until the original problem is resolved. The fact that you can get performance back after shutting down car and restarting is that the computer is rebooting and most likely the sensor is now functioning properly and or has not set the number of faults required for limp mode. What I would do is have someone with a scanner look for DTC's or engine problem codes, and remember the following: Lean or Rich fuel trims detected bank 1 bank 2 (is a Mass Air flow problem)Replace Mass Air flow sensor assembly. Accelerator position high or low and or erratic is most likely (Pedal sensor) Replace Pedal assembly. Good Luck.

Check engine light is on,display says restricted performance

Anything can cause the check engine light to go on from a loose gas cap, to a transmission issue. When the onboard computer detects an issue, it will restrict performance so as to not damage the engine any further. An Oil change won't affect this light. The only way to determine the cause of the light is to have the computer scanned with an OBD-II tool (Autozone does this for free) to determine the codes and cause for the light. You can also clear the light with the OBD-II tool, but if the problem is still there, the light will just come back on

Engine Light on and Restricted performance message on Jaguar S-Type

You need to take to Jaguar technician to have Mil lamp codes read and cured the restricted performance is the engine protecting itself as there is a fault in the management system, usually fuel system related,It has gone into "Limp Home" mode to try to limit the damage done untill the fault is cured

It just needs resetting.Hold each window switch down until you hear a click at the top and then go down all the way and hold until it clicks at the bottom of its travel.A low battery will cause this sometimes or a  battery change.Tony/Hills Motors, San Mateo, CA
