What is the refrigerant in my 1991 LS400 Lexus?

R12 or R134a? If R12 does that mean I cannot add additional refrigerant myself?

R12 is not sold no longer so look on the compressor for a tag of what freon to use. Conversions kits are sold for older cars to use R134a

91 Mercedes 300 E has R12 ac system that is no longer blowing cold. A faint bit of cool air sometimes shows up but it can hardly be called cool. Is there any additive out there compatible with R12?

Propane does the same as R12. I don't recommend it though(highly volatile). Best to convert to 134R. Last time I converted an R12 system was about 10 years ago. I would tell you how to do it, but I could get in trouble because you have to vent out the R12 first. I don't even know of a shop that has an R12 unit anymore. Good for you, they still have the adapters to go over your ports and the 134R today is compatible with the old systems oil. No need to change the compressor, dryer, and expansion valve.

Where is the low pressure point on a 92 toyato camry a/c

You can not buy R12 Refrigerant, for the last 20 years

1993 was the start of R134a

Does your have R134a ?

If you have to add -you have a leak to fix FIRST,
so leave A/C to the professionals

Can 134a refrigerant be put into a R12 a/c system?

no --it cannot. R12 gas operates at a far lower pressure that r134a so if you want to use r134a gas you will have to replace compressor ,evaporator and condenser and have a cooling fan for the condenser fitted

A/C Compressor Compatible with r134a?

Yes, you can buy a small kit with the adapter fittings and use R134. You can not add R134 if the system has R12 in it now.

Im trying to recharge my ac in my 91 nissan pickup and im pretty sure i know where the lowside ac port is but the hose adapter from my recharge kit does not fit snugly on the fitting?

Your 1991 will have R12 refrigerant in it unless it has been retrofitted to the newer R134a refrigerant. If it is still factory original then you will need to retrofit it to the new refrigerant, or see if you can find some R12. R12 has been discontinued years ago and if you can find it it is very expensive.

The amount of freon i need to put in my 1991 toyota corolla ?

well in that year they used r12 refrigerant ! today they use r134a refrigerant they are not interchangable if you have already converted to r134a they you can call toyota and ask for specific amount although you really dont need to know all you need is a can of r134a with a gauge on it if it
75-80 degrees outside the pressure should be between 40-45 pounds if its 85-90 degrees between 45-50 pounds on the low side were you add it so basiclly keep adding till those pressures are reached

please do not add r134a if you have not had system converted over from r12

Converting the r12 system

To convert from r12 to r134a freon, you first need to have the r12 discharged into a recovery system by a licensed professional. It is a violation of federal law in addition to environmentally irresponsible to vent this gas to the atmosphere. Next, remove the drier from the a/c system and use a spray can of a/c system flushing solvent to flush the oil r12 refrigerant and lubricating oil from the system by spraying into one of the liberated hose ends and placing a catch bucket under the other hose end.
You will need to purchase and install a set of adapters for the high and low side access valves by simply screwing them tightly and securely on top of your old r12 valves which are already in place.
After cleaning the system, replace the drier with a new one and reassemble the system. Evacuate the system to a sufficiently low pressure using an HVAC vacuum pump and then add the recommended amount of r134a freon and lubricating oil to the system through the charging hose on your combination manifold gauge set. Assuming of course that you didn't have leaks in the system before you began the conversion, you should now be good to go!
Good luck, and Stay Cool!

Where do i put in freon

your vehicle came with R12 u can not purchase it , well depends on your STATE. but you will need to retro fit for R134A unless there is R12 still available at your area.

there are 2 locations a high side and low side most people use the low side connection to add freon.
