Seriously, run leads on your fan motor. Check to make sure the fan is getting power. A non working fan can make your car overheat and that could've been the problem all along.

Like Roy Spooner said, it could [have been] your cooling fan. Start up the car, let it run til the temp gauge starts going over the half-mark, by then your cooling fan should have kicked in. If it didn't, shut the car off immeadietly! Let it cool down. Remove the fan motor. With a pair of alligator clips and best, some 12 gauge wire, make two jumper wires for the +ve and -ve sides of the fan and hook them up to your car battery. If the motor runs, you have a problem somewhere between your fuse, your relay and your fan timer control( the little box mounted on the fan housing itself)....if the thermostat was bad, the car would overheat but the fan would be audible as it woud keep running. If the water pump was bad, they have what's caled a "weep" hole where you would se a slow but constant drip of antifreeze externally. Sometimes the bearings go bad on the pump and they start to make a high pitched shrill. Hope this helped someone :)

Repl temp sensor. run 12v to motor, does it run? could be resistors, they're hidden all over the car, thanks to the ******* engineers that put this piece of **** together. or the fan blades could be blocked.

radiator clogged, did someone put stop-leak in it? Remove thermostat drill two 3/16" holes in it 180degress apart, install 12 degree cooler thermostat.

check to see if fan clutch is working properly.

Where is the compressor located on a 2000 BMW 323ci

I am assuming you want the air conditioner compressor BMW part number 64 52 6 910 458 for a 200 E46 323ci. Open the hood and look at the front of the engine where the belts are. There are two ribbed v-belts coming off of the crank shaft pulley located in the center of the engine down low. The longer belt (6PK x 1538) drives everything else (water pump, alternator). The short belt (5PK x 863) goes to the air conditioner compressor on the passenger side of the engine.

Cooling fan not coming on 2000 323ci. Thermostat, Sensor, fuses/relays, water pump not the problem

If everything you checked is working properly then it must be the fan motor. I'm sure you know it only turns on when a certain temperature threshold is reached correct? Checking because I've had people come in who think it should always be on.

Heater blows cold air

Check there is water in it first. A black cap on top of the radiator. If the level is ok then a wee red dipstick should float up.

I have a 2000 BMW 323ci . The car is over heating and the secondary fan is not turning on. What might the problem be?

check coolant level, might be a leak. most bmws have a water pump that uses a plastic impeller/propeller (dont know the technical name), but it breaks off the water pump shaft, and no coolant is circulated through the engine and radiator

Engine on my bmw330ci sport convertible keeps overheating it is a 2001 model with only 57000 miles on clock and well looked after

There are 4 things it could be! First your radiator or cooling fan is not turning on, this could be from a fuse. 2nd your thermostat needs replaced about 3-7 dollars for part. 3rd your water pump needs replace..about 150 to 300 dollars..If you can run for more then 10-15 miles then it shouldn't be your water pump. 4th your low on anti-freeze and need to add some into radiator!
Good Luck!
Hope this helps
PS to check fluid level under hood of car, wait until car is cooled to remove cap. And if you were low, you might want to check underneath your car to see if your leaking anywhere...
