Question about 1996 Toyota Camry

Open Question

My Camry won't go into park. I have to put it in Reverse pull the E-brake to turn off and remove the key. Starting means: turn the key til lights turn on hold down brake pull down E-brake shift to neutral and turn on the car. I've located the braided wire/cable that connects from shifter to transmission under the hood and tinkered with it even losing reverse a couple of times. What can I do to get it to push the lever all the way down to shift to park?

SOURCE: delay in transmission when starting car

Low transmission fluid, clogged transmission filter etc. Check the fluid level, check for leaks if low. Repair any leaks, if leaking from the transmission pan gasket you'll have to replace it. It'll be a good time for a transmission tune-up.

SOURCE: 1976 corvette shifter locked up, goes in revese & neutral only

You're going to have to crawl underneath it, and see what's going on. Your linkage has probably come loose, and the shifter is sliding on the rod, instead of changing gears like it should.

My tailkights are not working at all. My Park in the car is stuck and won;t come down with motor started.

turn engine off. Turn key to OFF position, (no lights on dash lit). Step on brake, pull shift lever to neutral. start car, put in drive and go. this is emergency bypass.

When the key is ON, the shift lock soneoid is engaged and won't release till the brake is applied. Since you don't have brake lights, it means the solenoid won't unlock.
check for a blown fuse or a bad brake switch on the brake pedal.

OFF is the first click clockwise from LOCK. it goes, LOCK, OFF, ON, START.

I cant get my 95 yukon out of park. the brake light switch i think is ok. i am thinking that it is the bracket that it slides into. how can i know for sure and how can i fix this issue

Well, if you key the ignition up without starting, pull back on the shifter handle and try to move it to reverse--while depressing the brake pedal--have someone look at the brake lights while you hit the pedal to be sure they are coming on.

Back up lights won't turn on when in reverse

Possibly you have a bad neutral safety switch, or the reverse lite switch @ the trans. Get a test lite @ a parts store. Check all the fuses, then turn on the key to the run position (don't start the engine), set the parking brake! Put the car in reverse and check for power @ the lite socket. If you have power, change the bulbs. You'll have to get deeper into the elec. system if there's no power. Good luck.
