A FAULTY EGR VALVE NOT OPENING WILL CAUSE THAT PROBLEM.

1983 Ford Ecoline 150 /6cyl. Failed smog/ Egr numbers were too high How can i fix this to pass smog

Other than testing the EGR valve, not many options. You really need a 4 gas analyzer to know what is coming out of the tailpipe. Otherwise you won't know if repairs have helped the problem.
When you say EGR numbers I'm not sure what you mean. Most of the time the test is for CO and HC gases, along with oxygen and Nox also in some areas. The EGR valve allows some exhaust gas to be recycled thru the engine and reburned. CO or HC could be high if the EGR system is not working.

Why is the reasont it didn't want to pass smog on the 15 mph it was to high on 1994 Mitsubishi mighty max 2.4 v4

No idea
CO-- I would Guess failed ?

What where the Emission Gas readings?
What is the standard to pass at your location?

You can Google exhaust gases & study what causes
the gases that were to HI & cause the vehicle to fail

Could be any number of things from a dirty air filter, dirty oil,
neglected ignition system, old failed exhaust converter, etc

You ALWAYS work on ALL Vehicles for a few days BEFORE
you go to inspection, then again, if they fail, using the exhaust
gases as your guide to resolving the area or system with the problem

NO ppm CA. smog at 15mph too high

NOX is high coolant or engine temps
& egr issues

Lots on the internet to study on exhaust gases
& the reason they fail inspection or are too hi

I failed smog test , it failed no(ppm) what can i do to get it to pass? it runs fine a there was vaccum hoese that had a hole in it and it was replaced, and it runs smooth now. i put in 91 oct. and took...

NOX is the pollutant that caused the failure, is what I gather from your post. The high NOX could be a lean fuel condition, high operating temp of the engine, bad EGR valve, excess carbon buildup in the engine. I would check EGR valve since you have checked and repaired a vacuum leak.

Egr code showing, changed it 2x's. and the gas cap, n the radiateor cap, n the( power stering lines, they where leaking, n sway bars). anyway what else will show egr code? H2O senser?

Common in automobile emission systems since the early 1970s, the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve controls an engine's emission of smog-causing nitrous oxides, or NOx. Its job is to route a portion of the exhaust gases back into the intake manifold. That lowers combustion temperature to below 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit - the temperature at which NOx gases form.

EGR flow is controlled by the engine's computer, which opens or closes the valve as needed. The EGR system is, for the most part, in the "out of sight, out of mind" category, and typical doesn't require regular maintenance. But if it gets clogged with carbon deposits, you'll see your "check engine" light come on, and a code (perhapsP0401or P0402 or P0403) will show that there is insufficient flow. That typically results from a vehicle being driven persistently on short trips that don't allow the engine to fully warm up. Flow problems also can be caused by carbon buildup due to failure to change the oil frequently enough.

A clogged EGR valve not only results in higher emissions, it can affect fuel economy and cause rough idling - even serious engine damage. Valves can usually be cleaned, but replacement is often recommended.

Advice? Make sure to put on some highway or freeway miles, and always change the oil according to the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual.

The check engine light is on, the EGR valve has been replaced, code P0401 appears on diagnostic. The engine is 4 cyl DOHC 2 wd. slight exhaust odor at times in vehicle.

About thie generic fault code, I suggtes check this description and tips for solution information: DTC-P0401-Tests (keep in midn that this code applied for alot brands, Hyundai included).

Check the ports if there is any carbon,I doubt it,
but you got to look
I would make sure you don't have overheating issues
That is the cause of NOX (High Combustion Temp)
Check fuel pressure
Use synthetic oil in engine
Check PCV Hoses etc

SOUND LIKE EGR VALVE NOT WORKING NOT OPENING UP OR EGR VALVE PORT STOPPED UP WITH CARBON BUILD UP NEED TO BE CLEANED OUT.SCAN VECHICLE SEE IF EGR WORKING OR YOU HAVE FAULTY PCM.

High nox fail smog test any remedies? 99

NOX is created when the internal combustion temperature gets to high. The egr system uses burnt exhaust gases to line to cylinder walls. The purpose of this is decrease internal combustion temperature therefore reducing the amount of NOX created.Would look to a possible egr malfunction usually they will trigger the check engine light but not always. The 4.3L has been known to have issues with carbon buil up in the egr and the egr pintle not open and closing properly.
