928s4 speedo stooped working

Took my car in for a transmission problem (re-build transmission) and when they put it back on the road the speedo does not work? They cant fix it.
Also the shift between 2nd 7 3rd is "hard".
It was a BMW Mercedes specialist, and was unfamiliar with 928S4

First thing to do is check the speedometer cable and make sure it is completely installed and fastened. Next, check and replace the instrument cluster fuse located inside the fuse box, it may be burned out. Hard shifting may be caused by low transmission fluid so check that out and add fluid, it may be low

2003. 2wheel dr 150 p.u. I. Put smaller tire on because back problems getting in .now at 60 mph dash odometer reads 69 mph . Is there something I can do . So odometer would be correct.

there are different speedo gears in the transmission available that will allow for some ratio changes in the diff so check with a dealer spares to see if any are available for your vehicle
when you say smaller tire , is it a smaller diameter rim that was fitted
if that is the case by fitting a larger tire case may get back closer to the correct reading
by that I mean for example a 195 25 r14 case can be replaced by a 195 95 r14 case as the difference is in the 25 to 95 measurement
the 25 measurement makes for the rim almost touching the ground where the 95 dimension stands the rim well up off the road and because of that the distance covered in 1 revolution is far different to the distance covered in 1 revolution by the 25 size tire
that solution may put the car back too high for your back problem so if the gears replacement is not possible , then a last solution may be to find an instrument repair shop and have the gauge re- calibrated to the correct reading according to the speedo gears in the transmission
if it is auto with a VSS unit that signals the speedo there may be changes in that area that are possible

Speedo not working at sll no movement even on rrdet

Hey Chris,

No make, model, year... engine, transmission or other clues as to veicular configurations came through with your comment/question...

Assuming you know the history of this (UNIDENTIFIED) vehicle...
herein after called "car"... and no RECENT hands have been working up inside the dash...

"Modern" Speedometers have sending units
(generally located where those speedo-cables USED to be... on the output (tail) shaft of the transmission.

Everything from serious road hazards, old-folks' walkers to plastic bags at HIGHWAY SPEEDS can disconnect those impulse wires...
rendering your speedometer an isolated (useless) space-taker in the midst of your gauges...

Beg, borrow or buy a "spare" sender & put it in place of your existing unit... to see if that changes things...

Input your car's info on BBB INDUSTRIES (registration required) and see if they have your SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS to locate any SPECIFIC fuses you could try first.

Hope this helps.

Replaced input and output speed sensors for erratic speedometer. Now the speedometer remains at 0. Anyone have a suggestion on what else could be wrong?

input and out put speed sensors tell the TCM and the ECM the difference between engine rpms and transmission input roms so that the correct gear ratio can be selected
A speedo sensor reads the out put shaft (drive line ) shaft and refers to road speed for speed and odometer readings and to calculate the fuel consumption rate
it is possible that you have replaced the wrong sensor
Talk with an accredited transmission specialist shop and have the problem diagnosed

My 1996 VW Jetta GL starting leaking fluid two days ago, and a lot was coming out. I assumed it was oil and made an appt to get it looked it. However, when checking my oil's dipstick it says it's...

first the car didn`t stooped leaking it is simply the transmission lubricant is lost all of it
if you didn`t hit a road bump or something underneath
probably it will be the oil sealing and/or universal joints .

So we took our 2003 Chevy S-10 truck into a local shop to get new seals as we had transmission fluid leaking. The truck was working properly when we took it in. When we went to pick it up they told us that...

a transmission that has wear tends to leak and a fluid change may not help instead make matters worst and the loud sound is bad news yes the transmission build pressure and blew it it's not common to blow fusses that unless is the fuse for the transmission or they disturbed any wire harness.

Speedo not working

Hate to tell you but your gonna have to redo everthing you did and recheck the speedo cable. Make sure you didn't stripe it or the gears inside the speedo and make sure its correctly installed and not kinked anywhere.
Now for the real scary part the other end of this cable goes into the transmission's output shaft. If you find that the cable's end at the speedo gauge and the gauge its self is a-ok ...then you have to inspect the cable at the tranny end and the gear it goes to. If cable is worn no big deal ( you buy a new cable and install) but if gear is worn Uh.. have to replace outputshaft on tranny to repair gear.
I'm hoping you didn't correctly install cable on speedo.
Good luck

Stalling And Engine Revving

Sounds like a transmission problem. My car was doing that and it turns out it had a transmission fluid leak that had led to major transmission damage. The bad news: the entire transmission had to be rebuilt.
