I was refering to J Thruster's comments about when to replace a timing belt.He commented on an Interference and Non Interference type of engine in the Outlander.
I was asking how I could find out which type my car was fited with.
    Hope this answeres the query.

Go to Dayco, Goodyear , etc. manufacturers website and enter your vehicle information. They usually will make sure to mention if it is Interference type engine.

Always assume that it is an interferance engine so you may want to change the cambelt at 60k intervals......otherwise what does it matter, unless some idiot has not done the belt changes regularly and its broken......then if you cant turn the engine/camshaft its f......

The only time Ive heard the term :interference' in my 40 odd years as a mechanic, was to do with pressing in objects that were fractionally larger than the hole it was going into, called an 'interference fit'.you should have just asked about cam belts.

if you can see a portion of the belt,it should be dull black rubber, like a tyre.if its grey and shiny on the flat side,replace..whether a motor has the valves damaged when the belt breaks, thru them hitting the pistons[interference] or not,if the cam belt breaks,or loses teeth due to a oil leak, the engine still stops.Seems like us proffessional auto engineers have a different terminoligy to the general public,.plus I suppose us living at the bottom of the world, means we call things differently

How to replace a rear motor mount on a 2003 outlander Mitsubishi

There is no printed detailed instructions that I am aware of. A car repair manual from your auto parts store may give some insight. Usually, most techs will size up the repair visually and remove necessary components to access the mount. The engine may have to be raised slightly for removal of the mount. Experience in auto repair is the biggest asset in this type of repair

2003 Outlander timing belt replacement

60,000 miles or 96,560 kilometers is about the longest amount of time and mileage to run on a timing belt. They might be lasting longer than that, but they can also fail at anytime after that.

Where is the water pump located on a mitsubishi 2.4L engine? I have a 2003 mitsubishi outlander

While I understand this answer may be overkill, follow this link to an article about the engine cooling system. Look midway down the article for this sentence "More information about 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander Engine Cooling System service and troubleshooting, find here – 32 pages of PDF filetype" Click on the "find here" link which will prompt you to download a file 14_rar. Open it with any decompressing software (Winzip, WinRar) to find 14.pdf. Go to page 14-23 to see a diagram of where water pump is. It will also give you instructions on removing and replacing it. Good luck!

2003 mitsubishi outlander won't start. It has gas and fuel pump works. It rained today could that be why its not starting?

If that is the problem, then the engine is in serious need of weather-proofing. Is the 'check engine' light lit? If so, have the problem code(s) read out with a scanner. That will give you the clues needed to find your problem.
