Question about 1991 Dodge Ram 150

1 Answer

My dad's 91` dodge truck will die on him during operation. After sitting on the side of the road it will start again. We have replaced coil, computer, cap& rotor. Sometimes it will run for days, then again today every mile or two it kept stalling.

Do you know what it is in Liters? As my reference books list all engine sizes in Liters.

  • cal9050968 Jul 10, 2010

    5.2 litre

    OK,

I would have the car's computer scanned for codes to help in diagnosing and repairing the vehicle's driveability issue.

It is unacceptable to have a car that stalls every few miles. I agree.

If there are no codes, then this one will be tough to repair, without any leads.

When you replaced the computer, was it brand new or used?

Why does my car try to die when i drive down the road?

Try to check the ignition coil, when you driving it become hot then the car dies end won't start. After awhile when it's cold, then it will start. Replace the ignition coil.
I hope it solves the problem

1996 dakota v6 starts dies but then wont start till time has gone by

Just a thought! There is a provision where when fuel pressure drops the ignition is shut off. This is to prevent pumping when the fuel line is compromised. Monitor fuel pressure to see if it drops during normal operation.

Engine cranks but will not fire.

check to see if you are getting a spark from the plugs. Just pull the plug and connect it back to plug wire. Then with gloves ground of that plug at the threds. Have someone try to start it only allowing 3-4 repatisions, and see if you have a spark. If you dont have a spark, then it would be eaither be the sparkplugs, plug wiers, or your coil is bad.

1991 Mazda 626 DX dies suddenly after running for 10 minutes.

Hello, It sounds like an engine ignition control module gone out or a coil. They get hot and quit working after a short period of time, cool off then work again till they get hot.
Is the ignition system pointless electronic or does it have points? Are you getting any fire at all now to the cylinders? Does the tach in the vehicle show any RPM's during cranking? Do you have voltage at the positive side of the ignition coil? Does the coil meet the ohm ratings for that years vehicle ignition? Does the vehicle have oil in it so the oil pressure sensor allows the engine to run, this may not be an option on your particular vehicle? You can check most of this out with a volt/ohm meter. Check your voltages before starting the vehicle, during running and after it quits to see where the loss is. Just don't get near the center tap of the coil or you will get a rude awakening and/or serious injury. Good luck, RAC
