We have a 1999 F-350 7.3 desil Truck that can only be started with starting fluid. Once started it spits and sputters. We have replaced the fuel pump and filter and the engine possitioning sensor. We also replaced the starting motor. What could be the problem?

Most likely by using starting fluid ie ether you've cracked a head or a piston, you're not supposed to use ether on a glow plug engine because ether lights almost immediately. If you must use ether have someone starting the vehicle while you feed it ether.

Hm. it's a Diesel. So, it uses glow plugs.
Diesel engines work on the principle of exploding diesel fuel vs. burning gasoline fuel.

If it is spitting and sputtering, there is a possible problem with the fuel that is in the tank.

You see, Diesel fuel, according to Wikipedia, changes its formula drastically from winter to summer to work best in winter or summer climates.

I would drain the Diesel out of the tank and replace with fresh Diesel from your local Diesel Fueling station.

If this doesn't work, then, you may have a sensor gone awry or a compression issue.

Good luck on this one.

I put a brand new pump and filter on it and once my 87 dodge dakota warms up it starts spitting and sputtering once it dies there is no gas going to the carb until it cools down?? Why?

Interesting.
Its possible the vent for the gas tank is not working - - you might try running the truck with the gas cap loose to verify.
You have checked the carb and you know for a fact there is no fuel inside it when it dies ? And you know the pump is not pumping fuel when it dies ?

When advancing down highway vehecle spits and sputters then clears up then spits and sputters what is it

When was last tune up? Plugs, wires, all filters & fluids? Especially fuel filter. I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it.

From red light truck started sputtering and and stalled out

Hello. The GMC Sierra has an electric fuel pump so you should ensure that its fuses and relays are working before checking it. You may need to clean your fuel pump or replace it if your gas tank is not empty, but your vehicle has difficulty getting fuel. The GMC Sierra comes in a variety of styles and trim levels that can affect the replacement fuel pump you choose.

Sounds like plugged catalytic converter, Disconnect exhaust in front of Cat. and see what happens. Check to see if you are losing fluid from radiator.

Car spits and sputters and stalls after driving a while

sounds like a fuel pump problem, with fuel pumps u can have pressure but not enough volume, try goin up a steeper hill in 2nd gear and get about 3000 rpms on the engine and see if it really drops out bad and is really gutless,if that happens without a check engine light coming on it might be yur pump and u should also replace the fuel filter at the same time, hope this helps

if you have an electric fuel pump that would explain the hum. unhook your incoming fuel line and blow the line clear, sounds like you've got some junk in your tank.it'll build up on the screen in the tank then fall off (at least partially) when your making turns or hitting bumps or holes. next time it's only got a gallon or so of fuel i'd drop the tank and check the pickup tube inside. sux but that's the only way to get to it. while you've got the tank off and out from under the jeep, might as well clean it out real good and replace anything inside (usually the screen) that doesn't look right, dirty etc. wouldn't hurt to run a bottle of fuel system cleaner in the next full tank of fuel either. preferably as soon as you put your tank back. good luck
