Runs but stops after 15min to half hour.Changed the fuel pump. someone said that if it sat which it did for a couple years it probably built up junk in the pan that kicked loose and pluged things up. Flushed it three times, does same thing.

I had a fuel pump changed on my 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, and the tank at the same time (as well as the sending unit and screen).

The gas tanks and lines rust out in Pennsylvania winters and wet summers.

If, however, you changed the fuel pump and it does the same thing, this makes me think that it is something else.

Have a pressure check of the fuel system performed. You should have plenty of fuel pressure on the fuel rail of the fuel injectors.

If not, then I would change the filter again.

I spent $1200 on changing fuel lines, tank, fuel filter, and fuel pump and sending unit about 1.5 years ago and sold the car to someone else, because it was getting kind of older as far as style.

However, the fuel pump went bad within 2 weeks of having it installed.
I had it repaired at no additional cost because it was in warranty, through Firestone.

But, it is still running today, as far as I know, with no fuel related problems.

Of course, that's quite a bit to pay for this repair, but it's worth it if you plan on using the car yourself and you like the body style or features on that year of car.

Hope this helps.

You didn't answer the question. Does it have an automatic shut of if the oil pressure drops?

I don't believe that an automatic shutoff exists for the 1990 model year Oldsmobile.

I have read that an automatic shutoff for low oil pressure exists on lawnmower engines, like the Kohler Magnum 20hp mower engine (that I happen to have on a 1984 Gravely Mower).

What do you mean? You don't know?

I'm sure it does not have a 'low pressure' shut off from what I've read on my online resources,

and experience fixing Oldsmobile cars from the1980s to the 1990s.

The oil pressure light might come on if low oil pressure is present.

It is up to the driver to shut the engine off manually if this occurs.

Even my 1997 Cadillac Deville has a low oil pressure light, but even on that vehicle,

it is up to the owner to shut the car off if oil pressure is low.

    Hope this helps.

check your fuel pump relay. when the pump itself goes out they typically just go out. but the relay can cause intermittent issues

No fuel pressure when cranking over. dump gas down carb and runs til fuel is gone. Its a 89 caddy deville with 4.5, has sat for two years. Is it the fuel pump or could it be the fuel relay? If relay, where...

More often than not it is the fuel pump, especially with sitting for a couple years, hopefully empty if not try and get out as much of the old gas as possible when you replace the pump.

First off, I think you bought a raft of stuff you didn't need on that repair job! The sound of it at this time is that probably the fuel pump is about gone. You need to measure the fuel pressure (engine running) at the fuel rail (the test port looks like a tire valve) above the injectors. The pressure should be in the 45 to 55 PSI range. If the pump is toast, it will be much lower. The pump resides in the fuel tank. You probably have the check engine light on. If the code(s) are read out with a scanner, it will likely point to the fuel pump.

I just got an 89 ford bronco. It has been sitting and i want to clean injectors cuz it won't start.Have added additive to fuel. Not helping. How do I go about doing this. Thanks.

first off check your inline fuel filter. If its clogged or restricted you wont get fuel to the injectors with enough pressure. pressure will atomize the fuel out of the injector. email if you want detailed info just email me and ill respond.

Have you tried replacing the starter? I know starters can go bad if the car is not started or run for a long time.

I am getting the same car, with the same issue.. it sat for 2 yrs and won't start.

My mechanic told me it is probably a starter.

Fuel pump not staying on 1993 k1500 350

Some GM products also incorporate the oil sender switch into that circuit for fuel pump, so that in case of an accident, engine shuts off, oil pressure drops, in turn, shuts off power to fuel pump. May be worth a look at what your getting for oil pressure, as well as checking switch/sender.
