Every time it rains we have water in the wheel well in our 2005 honda accord ex

If your EX has a spoiler on the trunk it may be leaking around one of the bolt holes. That's where they usually leak. Check your trunk seal for any tears.

I can't find the tensioner bolt to loosen the belt to install the alternator on my 2005 Ford Freestar

You put a long ratchet in the tensioner hole to remove tension

Only a few vehicles have a bolt to loosen & you would see that
& no square hole in tensioner

Well the battery light is telling the driver the alternator is not charging the battery.

Remove the tension in the alternator's pully

There should be a square hole in the mount for the idler pulley. Insert a ratchet drive (or breaker bar) into that hole (should be 1/2" drive) -- then move the idler pulley with the ratchet in the direction which relieves the tension on the belt.

Need to change the alternator on a 2001 sunfire,2.4 engine, how do i do that?

Things You'll Need:
  • Battery terminal wrench
  • Serpentine belt removal tool
  • 3/8-inch ratchet
  • 3/8-inch metric socket set
  1. Turn off the engine and place the transmission in park (automatic) or first gear (manual). Engage the parking brake and open the hood. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal using the battery terminal wrench.

  2. Remove the serpentine belt by inserting the end of the serpentine belt tool into the square hole on the belt tensioner and rotating the removal tool clockwise. Unplug the alternator's electrical connector. Remove the bolt holding the positive voltage cable to the alternator using a 3/8-inch ratchet and a metric socket. Remove the positive voltage cable from the alternator.

  3. Remove the alternator bracket bolts using a metric socket connected to a 3/8-inch ratchet. Remove the alternator from the car. Place the new alternator in the mounting brackets and reinstall the mounting bolts using a 3/8-inch ratchet connected to a metric socket.

  4. Reinstall the positive voltage cable on the alternator and tighten the retaining nut using a 3/8-inch ratchet and a metric socket. Plug in the alternator's electrical connector. Compress the serpentine belt tensioner using the serpentine belt tool. Reinstall the serpentine belt according to the belt-routing diagram located under the hood.

  5. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery using the battery terminal wrench. Start the engine and verify that the alternator works.

How do you loosen the alternator belt on a 2002 gmc denali

With a single serpentine belt most gm models have a belt tensioner which has a small square hole in the tensioner. You put a 3/8 inch drive ratchet in the hole and pull up or push down to release the tension off the belt. Once you have released the tension pull belt off of one pulley and you can ease up on ratchet and take ratchet out.

Serpentine belt

Hey there hardrock,
  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator.
  • The tensioner pulley is near the Alternator toward the center of the engine. It's on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done
