Question about 1996 Toyota Tacoma

My 1996 Toyota Tacoma AC Compressor Clutch is frozen up. Can just the clutch be repaired? I have 200,000 miles on this truck and do not want to spend a lot of money for a new AC compresor kit. There has got to be a less expensive way to restore air conditioning.

Give a dealer a call ask for the service department,Ask if the have a repair kit, also call your local parts stores ask them for parts and what special tools are required. Most of them are honest and will be happy to help.("Don't try to unhook any AC lines you could blind yourself if the freon gets into your eyes. if you have to pull the compressor.take it to a repair shop have them drain it for you first"). Hope this helps, Good luck

A quality AC compressor is warranty for 5 years.

The common problem is the clutch get over-heated/aged and the magnetic wiring's insulation is grounded to the clutch's metal frame.

You got 14 years out of your compressor.....consider you got your money's worth.

The answer is replace the compress and the dryer then let a shop to pull and vacuum.

Refill with the correct amount on R-134 refrigerant.

SEE the sticker on the hood or radiator support area the amount of R-134 need for the job.

Where is the Clutch Adjustment located on a 1996 Toyota Tacoma?

Hi,
The adjustment is in the clutch slave push rod and master( where the pedal push rod attaches the master cylinder ) if it uses a hydraulic type.
If it is cable type, the adjustment is on the cable front of the firewall, where the cable comes out from bulkhead.

Hope that helps!
