thru-out bearing was new along with the rest. already convincing myself to put back up on stands and pull it all. thanks

ji pulled the starter and found a spot right there where the pressure plate was rubbing the bell housing. i took a hacksaw blade and like dental floss i sawed thru to make a little clearance, hopefully enough. all spent tonight but will reinstall starter in the morning and see. blessings to you and thanks much for the chat. jim

getting under car it appears the clutch assembly is most likely clipping a re-enforcement on the bell housing. just a lite touch of the clutch pedal and the chatter stops. using a long screw driver to listen i think i zeroed this to the bell housing area. also i can feel the bell housing chattering right along with the noice and am now convinced i have a clearance issue. now i have to deside to either pull all or just let it rub away until it stops making noice. project cars are great fun inspite of things like this. oh well thanks for reading all this.

No problem... Actually its not recommended that you just let it go till it stop. It may stop but may create more damage. When the pedal is depressed and the noise stops, its gotta be a release bearing issue. You must replace the release bearing to stop this. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Make sure you have the spacer plate installed if you are using the original bell housing. The conversion kit comes with a spacer and new crossmember as the mustang was not designed to run the corvette transmission. Also be sure the alignment tool is splined into the clucth correctly.

I have a 99 mustang gt & I know it needs either a pilot bearing or throwout bearing, but it started making a knocking noise when the car reaches @ 2200 rpm & stops after I shift gears! Does not...

your description is not clear. the throwout and pilot bearing only work when the pedal is depressed. and dont make knocking noises, so rule that out. If the noise is when the car is moving and in gear, the trans maybe bad. makes noise in all gears at 2200 rpm? trans needs to come apart.

I may need to replace the automatic transmission out of my 1995 mustang GT convertable. I need the factory name or the specs of the tranny so I can look around and be sure I am getting the right...

YOU HAVE A AOD,NOT AN AODE. YOU'RE AOD HAS A MANUAL THROTTLE VALVE CABLE WITH MANUAL OVERDRIVE SELECTIVE BY LINKAGE. AODE HAS ELECTRONIC OVERDRIVE ACTIVATED BT A BUTTON AND MORE INTERNAL ELECTRONICS,THIS ONE WON'T WORK. TRY GETTING A REBUILD ON IT,MAY BE CHEAPER WITH A WARRANTY! GO SOME WHERE RELIABLE THOUGH LIKE DEALER.

What automatic transmission is a code p in a 1996 mustang gt. I think iy is a tremec t56.

your car has a ford AOD-E if it's an automatic, if it were a 5 speed manual it would be a T-45, the T-56 is a 6 speed manual transmission that was found in the 2003 and 2004 cobra models.
