Question about Dodge Ram 1500

1 Answer

I have a 1998 dodge van b1500 van 5.2l. I recently replaced the front brakes. I have heard a small knocking noise since the replacement. It is most noticeable at 30mph. When i step on brake it fads out only to return. I took the wheel off and inspected the brake slide and gave them a little ubing thinking that the pads were sticking. It seems this wasn,t the solution. Any thoughts on this? many thanks in advance

Hi

Guess it’s the pad moving in the caliper.A set of anti-squeal shims should sort it....pugs also use a strange wire setup to hold the pads...have a look if you have alloys on, this might have been put on incorrectly.

Let us know if you have something more to know else accept the suggestion.

Thank You for contacting Fixya.com

Wheel bearing

If grinding noise is heard coming from front side, lift up both the front wheels and rotate the wheels one by one to listen to the sound, if any. If a noise is heard, replace the front wheel bearings as a set.
If the front wheels do not produce any abnormal noise when rotated, lift down the front vehicle. Lock the front wheels with blocks, release the hand brake. lift up the rear wheels and try to listen to the abnormal noise. If the noise is heard, replace the differential bearings and seals. Top up the differential oil to the mark.

Recently replaced front shocks, bearings, and ball joints. CV joints to be replaced (grind noise heard) and advised that noise heard when going over bump coming from inside steering rack which should also...

If the rack is not leaking fluid, and the power steering is operable, there is no reason to replace the rack. If the rack has become loose from the vehicle and is causing a noise, you can tighten the bolts to secure it.

I recently just had new front and back brakes put on my 1998 plymouth van and the brake light is stll on and my brakes are going all the way to the floor when I'm coming to a stop. I have to put brake...

First - it's old, things break.
Your brake line somewhere is leaking. I good repair place would / should have seen this.
The brake light is because the car thinks the PARKING brake is on, not because the brakes need to be replaced.
Chrysler products that I have owned from 1990 to 1998 have had a problem with blown head gaskets. A 1998 Plymouth Breeze being the last one that I had to replace the head gasket in. The exhaust leaks into the coolant and forces it out, and the car runs hot.
Junk it and get another van!

My dodge caravan giving very loud sound like lion roaring from the front. what is the cause of these noises, please tell me. -SK

Often times a pump will make load noise, power steering or such. With the engine running, the van in park with the brake on you may be able to use a small piece of pipe (CAREFULL OF ROTATING PARTS) and place it against the power steering pump or such and listen for the sound. At the very leaset to confirl it is not from inside the engine, you can remove the serpintine belt and run the engine for a brief moment; if no noise then you know its the power steering pump, altenator or.....
I hope this may ahve helped,
Tom

Does your car have rear disc brakes? If so, it is likely a failure of the emergency brake that is inside the rear disc.

Rear wheel

does the van shake or vibrate? does the van have tires on it ?start by switching the left rear with the right rear test drive and listen for soun if no sound then the tire has a bad steel belt replace tire if the sound is still present. jack up van and spin tire if no sound is heard replace wheel bearing and if there is still a sound look into brake drum for possible springs or clips that may have fallen into drum causing noise but i would say its more than likely the rear wheel bearing to change that u must buy a new bearing and follow instructions on replacing good
