Hi,
The water pump can be located by following your bottom radiator hose to the engine... it connects to the pump.
The thermostat is done the same way by the top radiator hose. The hose attaches to the small housing for the thermostat (usually on top of the engine).
I hope this helps you. Good luck!

thermostat is on the waterpump. Follow the lower radiator hose to the housing. there should be three 10mm bolts should be holding the housing to the waterpump with the thermostat in between. If you are going to change it, then drain your cooling system first.

Overheat after waterpump replacement

Did you change the thermostat? If not it may be the cause. You can check the thermostat by removing it and immersing it in hot water. If it is working it will open. The thermostat is usually located under the upper radiator hose.

I have a 1997 cadillac deville and it keep over heating. i have changed the hose out twice and checked for leaks, plus i my fan is working fine...

Check the waterpump and thermostat. When the waterpump doesn't turn, engine heat is not transported to the radiator. When the thermostat doesn't open once warm the same happens - no engine cooling.

The radiator should be hot op top and cooler at the bottom. If it's cold allover then there's no cooling fluid transport

Where can I find a diagram for the cooling system on a 1998 cadillac deville online? We need to know the position of the thermostat, and water pump.

Hello: I don't know of any free information unless you join a website called AllData but I can explain where the thermostat and Waterpump are located on a Cadillac Northstar engine.
Thermostat: Follow the lower radiator hose from the radiator to where it hooks to the engine. The nipple where the hose connects has 2 10mm bolt heads, remove the bolts, the thermostat is behind it, note the position it comes out so you can install the new one the same way. Waterpump is in the same area, remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold the cover of the Waterpump housing. You may have to remove a heater hose. You will have to have a special tool (can get one at Advance Auto Parts) to remove and install the new Waterpump. Both of these items are on the drivers side on the engine.

Car runs real hot

Make sure to use OEM parts and drain the air out of the cooling system. The 3.5 especially is very touchy regarding OEM and aftermarket waterpumps and thermostats for whatever reason. Simple solution to bleed out the air is to drive the car 5-10 mins without the pressure-cap.

Getting warmer, maybe just not flowing correctly?bubbles quick in az! not bad yet!!

while your car is running and, warmed up; squeeze the top radiator hose; if you feel coolant flowing your thermostat is open and your waterpump is working if your waterpump fails it usually drips coolant out of a "weep" hole on to the ground first.
